I seem unable to fathom out how to clear the computers memory of mileage ,distance travelled etc.  the handbook is no help

The memory 1 is reset when the car has been stopped for more than 2 hours, so it's always calculated for the journey you're on. Press the roller on the right of the steering wheel once to get to memory 2, which keeps adding mileage/calculating average speed and fuel consumption until you manually reset it. I use it to keep track of the distance travelled between refuels to see how much the car's fuel consumption estimate is wrong by (It claims to be 10-12% lighter on fuel than real world brim to brim figures). Hold down the roller on the right of the steering wheel while looking at memory 2 data and it will reset memory 2.
