Oil pressure warning light

Featured Replies

Crawling along the M61 this morning in nose to tail traffic, an orange oil pressure warning light, and "restrict to 4000 revs" warning light and text flashed up. and then an orangle symbol of a rev counter and exclamation mark flashed now and then on my way to the office in Warrington.

Checking my handbook, unless my eyes are deceiving me, I cannot find this symbol.

Had this car 3 months, its done 57k.

Aside from the obvious go to a Skoda workshop, does anyone have any advice?

thanks

Brian

Is it following symbols (taken from page 21 of https://mediaportal.skoda-auto.com/resource/documentation/manuals/en/octavia/05-2012/manual/a5_octavia_ownersmanual.pdf ):

If so, it looks like an oil pressure problem.

I'd check the oil level just to make sure it's not low and the either take it to a dealer or a garage that has diagnostic equipment to diagnose the problem. Probably sooner rather than later as low pressure won't do your engine any favours.

my car is the facelift and it has the maxidot screen, not these screens pictured.

The orange icon appears where the time is, then goes.

I'll have to try and photograph it when it next happens.

thanks for the link to this handbook, which is different to the one that came with the car - (dark grey/blue saloon with countryside in background cover photo)

same problem here. did you manage to fix yours?

Assuming oil level is adequate, possible oil pick up blockage or restriction. You shouldn't ignore it.

  • 1 month later...

So, i went to a Skoda workshop. They tested the oil pressure, and it measured 2 bar in idle, 2 bar at 2000 RPM and 3.5-3.7 bar at close to 4000 RPM.

They said it could be the oil pressure sensor or the pump but before changing something the electrical guy wanted to check if there continuity form the oil pressure sensor to the ECU i think but the internet was down in the workshop and he didn't had acces to the workshop manual that are on the VW AG Workshop Group. So, i'm going back there to check the wires and i hope that's the issue or the pressure sensor at most.

Sorry, don't see a ''edit'' button. can some one tell me the part numbers for the oil pressure sensor and oil pressure switch.

Happy ending. The wire from the pressure sensor was eroded or something like.

It is always nice to have a happy ending!
