Featured Replies

just wondering if anyone ha ever used upholstery spray paint for there cream carpet in there Octavia I have seen the results straight after someone has sprayed them and looks really good just wondering if it actually stays on or if it flakes off after a year was going to do over Christmas when have some time off work

Just as easy to find a dark carpet from Golf/Bora/A3/Leon/Toledo or another Octy.

I have been looking at getting a black carpet out of a mk4 golf I didn't know if there was a lot more work trying to get the carpet from behind the dash and stuff like that

Easy job, front seats, rear seat base out and centre console out, swap carpet, put it back together, job done.

is there a guide on this on here, as the last time i took seats out was on my old corsa which had captive nuts that just snapped off, then involving cutting and welding new ones....a right pain in the arse just to remove the seats. Carpet replacement is something i am looking to do in the summer next year

I have to agree that seat removal is easy. It is quite surprising how easily the rears come out - check youtube (seems to be easier to search for mk4 golf videos tbh) hand pressure and a flat blade screw driver and Robert is your uncle!!

Fronts are 4 bolts IIRC, 2 under blind covers (again, check youtube).

Rear of the cenre console is easy but I haven't taken the front part of the centre console out yet. Can't believe it is that difficult considering the rest of it is easy!

Yep front seats dead simple. First roll the seat fully forward and prise out the little plugs that hide a screw that secures the black plastic seat runners. Undo these screws and remove said plastic covers. Now glide the seat backwards and undo the two 13mm nuts to be found at the front of the base of the seat in the middle. With these undone the seat will push back off the runners and if you wind the back rest adjuster to bring out towards the front of the car, you'll get enough clearance to extract the seat through the front door opening.

For the rears you only need to remove the bases to get the carpet out and this takes seconds. Just squeeze the brackets out of the eyelets.

Hardest bit you'll find is getting the central console but out over the handbrake and gear stick if I recall correctly.

Have you tried a good wet vac first?

I know loads of people chirp in with 'black carpet is loads better' but the white is part of the charm and originality of the vRS - ripping it out is a crime imho. Mine is a bit rough around the edges but mostly still perfect and comes up spot on with a wet vac once every couple of years.

I swapped the carpets yesterday.

Whilst I get the "silver" carpet being part of the Vrs DNA, I just couldn't live with the state of it after 14 years of (ab)use. I changed it to a black one which does look good I have to be honest.

When I got the seats out you could see where someone had used bleach to try to clean it previously, so quite happy now to have changed it.

I think the member above me got a bargain then. :D  (It did need a little more thorough cleaning though)
