Misfire and plugs

Featured Replies

My car has a misfire at around 5k it's got denso plugs in it at the mo they need the gap setting is it 0.6mm that's the right gap, also it's getting mapped in the new year witch plugs should I use got the itg filter, front mount and a decat full system exhaust also going to get a gfb dv+

Thanks for the help

I know I'm getting a bit old for 'down with the cool guys-speak' but wot is a 'front mount' and a 'gfv dv+' ?

Or is it predictive text gone mad?

The "front mount" is an Italian modification for towing caravans in reverse.

It's an intercooler and the the dv+ is the dump valve

If using a Trusted and Reliable place to get the Remap they should know about which spark plugs to use.

For now you need to sort out that Misfire.   You need no Misfire when running standard sett ups before the Remap gets done really.

Are you running the latest Software Update, and Super Unleaded Fuel?

Do you have a tuning box on?

** Do you know the car is running standard now, and has no Remap already on the ECU?**

Like some crap one from the likes of REVO!

When were the new spark plugs fitted, (how many miles ago, they should be good 'long time mister'),

did you check and set the plugs and fit them?

Which DENSO are fitted?

^^^^ exactly, make sure its running sweet standard before the remap ect even if the denso plugs are all set up right , if they are more than 10k old they may simply be failing....

if not, I would check the coil packs next, then fuel pressure.

edit: will be interested in the power figures when its finished!

Hello, I know this needs sorting before the map and the car had a new engine 5k ago and it's running the most upto date ecu update, the car is always run on momentum 99 and there are no other tuning boxes or maps on the car it just needs the gap doing on these plugs as I didn't have feeler gauges when I fitted them. The company who is going to map it is cc tuning so I'll ask him before I go

Cheers

The plugs have been in about 1000mile maybe

Best check the gap now then on the spark plugs and see what they are at.

Did you get some form of warranty with the replacement engine?

& did you take out the New Plugs that were in when the engine was replaced after only 4,000 miles and put in the DENSO?

Best have the place the engine was fitted check why there is misfire now,

but they might not want to touch it with the DENSO spark plugs in that you fitted.

Have you had any 'Warning Lights;,  or are there Misfire Codes being Logged?

Got 2 years warranty with the engine from Skoda I've had the engine management light flash for a few seconds and no stored codes on my code reader

<SNIP>

but they might not want to touch it with the DENSO spark plugs in that you fitted.

Interesting . . . why might that be the case?

Indeed interesting.   I am sure you will be 'interested; in an academic way, or just in a 'smart ar53 way'.

The reason i say that is because of others that have had replacement engines and then misfires and the people that fitted the engine said

that the non standard plugs were fitted.

My dealer is good tho and will help me out what is the gap the plugs should be set to is it 0.06

Cheers

vRSforever was advise by the Bluespark Box guys to set at 0.6,  and VW have changed the Gap to 0.7 with OEM plugs i believe.

i run Stage 1 with a 0.8 gap with the SKJ-20CR DENSO plugs.

?

What condition were the spark plugs you removed from the new engine at 4,000 miles, like new?

  • Author

They where in good condition when I removed them, I'll gap them to 0.6 then see how they go thanks for your help

Cheers

I have been running Denso plugs for 6 months now set at 0.6mm gap. Completely cured my misfire. I can redline now & it doesn't miss a beat.

I am currently running an ITG Maxogen forced air intake, a TMC tuning box & a 70mm SS cat back exhaust system with central resonator removed.
