Fabia VRS tyres

Featured Replies

My brother is a tyre fitter so I can get new tyres at trade price from a supplier.

I just bought 2 Mohawk 195 45 16 for £26 each for the front but noticed my back don't have long left. I plan on sticking those on the back and getting slightly better ones for around 30-35 each instead.

Any idea what brands and better than Mohawk? They're just mid range apparently, I don't know what they would retail but with a £26 trade price is think almost double or just under.

Let me know because my brother has to ring up and get individual prices for brands.

Mohawks are budget btw, mid range are your Kuhmos, Toyo, Hankook etc

Best prices I tend to find from Oponeo and Tyreleader who are massive European distributors and especially good for All Season tyres which are best for running this time of year.

I use to have a Fabia 1 VRS SE (#89), then a Fabia 2 VRS now just the Jaag as a fun car.   All are cars run All Season or Winters this tyre of year and with the amount of run and possibility of snow next month could well be a wise choice looking at the extreme weather we are seeing.

Bought a 53 plate Type S, the little 2.5 litre V6 Duratec engined one matched with the ZF 6 speed autobox.

Needs a bit of work in a couple of areas but it still managed over 40 mpg cruising at 70 mph back from Devon a few days ago.   Took it up to a fairly silly speed and feels like it needs a one or two suspension components chaging but as expected for a big luxury car with 150k miles on it. Engine seems very sweet, as with similar autos a bit rubbish at getting off the line but great in Sports mode when rolling, even with only 200, or so, hp, howling up to 7k revs. 70 mph is 2K revs.  Slight coolant leak otherwise pretty good all round.

Stupidly came with H rated tyres so switched them to V rated Kuhmos that I got from Tyreleader at £33 a corner.  It has got the smallest 205 16 inch options but seems not too bad.  Very pleased for a car that cost me only £1700 (need an auto sometimes when my left knee playing up).  White leather interior as well, electric seats etc.  Road Tax a bit pain but other wise a cheap car in many ways.

Don't put naff tyres on the back of a mk1 fabia, theyre light on the back end anyway. It's asking the end up pointing the wrong way if you give it too much round a bend.

You've got a good car, match it with good tyres, they're the most important bit of a cars handling.

Personally, I'm on Avon zv5's, and they just grip and grip.

Agreed; you're asking for either a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside or a membership of the Inverted Briskodans Club putting ditchfinders on the back of a Furbie 1.

At the minute I have very low tread tyres and it doesn't slide giving it a lot round corners and roundabouts.

I'll check when I get chance but I'm sure they were called Nanking or something, NOT NANKANG which I've heard of, not sure if it's a budget version or what lol.

End of January when I get paid I'll be putting 2 new tyres on, what kind of brands should I look for?

Probably pay up to £50 each (at trade price)

I fit Toyo T1Rs to my Clio, entered some corners far too fast and never lost it, I'd also go for hankook ventus prime, Kuhmo Ecsta. That kind of area

Uniroyal RS3s too

Would always suggest that one does not scrimp on tyres ie when to replace them or when to get them.  Cops, and our cars we use in government departments for pursuit work, my background is customs, we would replace tyres when tread depth got down to 3 mm ie twice the wear block height for a summer tyres as braking performance ie what could save your or someone else's life, seriously falls off after that point when there is any serious amount of water on the road.

Good tyres, sizes likes 205s I use on the Dacia and Jaag, are only £30-40 delivered from Oponeo or Tyreleader so hardly a painful amount and I would rather I carried a few quid on my credit card statement than hundreds or thousands of repair costs or points on my licence.

I find Kumho and Nexen ie high tech Korean brands, superb value and good performance even relative to Michelins.

I have a query about the tyres on my car, not sure if this is the best place to ask.

I cant remember what they are, but I kept on getting a knocking from the off side front, and having a bad back at the moment I asked my Father to have a look for me.  When he checked it, he asked me to have a look at my tyres.  When I managed to get down to look, by the inside of the rim, they were both Carbuncled, and not in good condition!  Mortified!

In my head I'm thinking that my car has so much torque that the car was trying to tear the tyres off!  Ha!  Or, just the fact they are poor quality!

Had a several 130 PD engined cars include Fabia VRS and with this sort of power/torque it is braking, repeatedly from 120 etc, to slow speed, back up to 120 and then back to slow speed that can cause the front tyres to overheat, not so much acceleration.  Only tyres I found really worked were Michelin Pilot Sports, you could not get Michelin Super Sports without changing to non-standard rims and bigger tyres that could take the heat dissipation.    Fabia 2 VRS could do this at an even faster rate with its extra 50 hp etc.

Interesting!

Believe it or not, you could be right, particularly if your's is mapped.

Having said which, you could also have worn console or wishbone bushes, top or bottom balljoints, or mis-set tracking. (prove bushes are good before having tracking set, since it's possible to get tracking right on a rig, and it be wrong on the road due to worn components.)

Are you sure they are 195/45 and are the rears the same? Standard Fabia vRS tyres should be 205/45 16.

If so are these the ones you've just bought? http://www.camskill.co.uk/m62b0s94p126586/Mohawk_Tyres_Car_Mohawk_M105_Mohawk_M_105_-_195_45_R16_84V_XL_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_E_Wet_Grip%3A_E_NoiseClass%3A_3_Noise%3A_73dB

Yes, there are plenty of better tyres out there. Those are E rated for wet grip! Rainsport 3 are far better (A rated) and should be within your £50 budget. In saying that some of the cheapest budgets are B or C rated, but I would never touch them.

Put the new Mohawks on the back and bought some uniroyal RS3's they're ridiculous, would recconend to anyone. Last night in the wet, foot down round the corner it just stick like glue!

So you found why they are named "The Rain Tyre", ie Great in the rain!  I had no complaints in the wet too. The only complaint is they were quite soft and for me only lasted the Summer (8 months/8k miles on front).
