What do you do with old microfibre cloths

Featured Replies

Basically... I have a pile of about 20 microfibres now. Some are starting to go mouldy so will more than likely end up in the bin, but even for future reference what do the pros do?!

I cleaned the last set I bought and used in hot soapy water, left them to dry in the garden, bagged them up and left them on the shelf, just looked at them before and they are green and mouldy again now!

I've just been buying the 5 for £3 at Halfords instead of cleaning the mould off

I've got a big plastic box like this.

I was them in the washer with bio washing powder (no fabric conditioner though) and line dry them. They're fine in the tumble dryer on a low temp too. I use woolite when they are getting a bit tatty and it revives them but there are plenty MF washes available now too.

Hope this helps buddy.

I get Mrs Goldfinger to wash them, dry them on the line or in the tumble drier. Mrs Goldfinger then Irons them and folds them nicly and puts them away.

My other half refuses to let them go in the washer :D

The kitchen is her castle, that's fine by me! Don't want to rock the boat with some rags and not have my tea on the table when I get home!

After a first or second wash with liquid detergent ONLY..Powdered detergent can leave dusty residues

I use them for Engine bay, sills, wheel arches, inner wheels...then bin them if they are too bad....without asking 'Her indoors'

Seems the most obvious thing to do really, if that's good enough for you, it's good enough for me!

As a "pro" [cough], they go in a big bag to be used for messy oily jobs :D  Won't ever be used for polish removal again. :)  Maybe some other aspect of car cleaning could see them being used.  Thinking exhaust tailpipe polishing, that sort of thing.

I like using them for cleaning up greasy oily parts.  I've got a PD cam cover to clean up which is gunked to hell.  A bucket of warm water, G101 and a couple of the aforementioned old microfibres should do it.

They will then be wringed out, dried, and thrown out.

Same here, once they're gone past their best, use for engine bays, applying trim dressings and removing autosol from exhausts and they're thrown away. Best to keep some higher quality cloths for use on the paint.

Pretty much my routine Neil.  ;)

Also worth keep a 5L tub of White Vinegar handy and throw a splash of this in the wash every few weeks.

The towels, especially the CarPro BOA's are fully revived with this and a tumble dry.

The cheap Costco MF's are run down the hierarchy as you state.... all the dirty jobs and binned.

In fact, i had a clearout yesterday rearranging the garage - so all the old yellows were binned.

The colour coded BOA system will be in place for 2016....

I've got a big bucket / tub, the type used for gardening mostly. I'll fill it up with warm water and detol and soak them, leave them to dry outside and keep in a tub as suggested,

Hopefully stop them going mouldy.

I think a plastic bag will encourage the mould if there is even a tiny amount of moisture in the cloths. I've never had an issue using the storage tubs and mould.

Best to keep some higher quality cloths for use on the paint.

Carpro Boa

Carpro Boa

Never heard a bad word said against those buddy.

Mine tend to move down the ladder rungs to the dirtier jobs.

Yes I do have two small ladders verticle/flat against the garage wall with all my cloths on, newist at the top for glass/polish then down they go! :)

Never heard a bad word said against those buddy.

Glad I reminded myself I am out, so just ordered another 5 from carpro's website :D

Even when totally filthy they still feel plush as anything :D

Totally agree Jason..... always soft, plush and a great MF to use on paint.

The orange ones faded a bit; but i switched to the grey ones and sourced some navy blue - neither fade as bad.

WaxPack have also started supplying a green one - i only have a sample - but it is holding its colour well too.
