Did this belong to anyone here?

Evening folks, hope you're all enjoying a wee tipple in anticipation of the New Year.

I'm on the lookout for a family car, and came across this VRS estate.

I've never seen a yellow one before, and wondered if anyone has any more information about this car, or better yet, if the previous owner is a member.

Thank you in advance, and Happy New Year to one and all.

£7,500, blimey, credit to the lad for trying  :D

It could just be the photo's but the yellow looks very 'yellow', I thought the standard yellow (is it called Sprint or Canary yellow?) was a bit lighter. Saying that though the lashing points in the boot are also yellow so this would suggest the car has always been yellow.

This is what I was expecting...

The actual car looks a different yellow?

The leather vRS seats are not original. They aren't the standard leather seats, nor are they the special edition 'LE' leather seats either.

The alloys obviously aren't either.

Looks like the boot has carried an oily engine or a dead body, and the retractable roller boot cover is missing.

The rear parking sensors look factory fitted (recessed) but without any proper interior pictures it's hard to tell what else it has.

My initial thoughts are that the photo's in online adverts tend to flatter most cars by hiding lots of sins. This one looks tatty so I can only assume it is.

I then come back to the asking price, wow.

To give you an idea how far out on price he is, here is another one. OK it's a hatch and has a little more mileage but it is £3,000 cheaper!

Boot doesnt look that dirty TBH but it is missing the torneau cover...they arent overly cheap to replace.

The seats id wager have been professionally retrimmed at some stage...they look like the correct seats but no UK vRS has ever come with leather of that finish or piped red.

As Silvers comment...7.5k is too much money, particularly for a pre FL that evidently is non standard and not immaculate. You could probably pick up a tidy if miley FL TDI CR for that sort of money.

Thanks for the input, saved me a bit of a trip.

I assume 100k+ mileage on these is ok, as long services and the cambelt and pumps have been done on time?

Yes, the PD170 is generally a good lump, only really let down by it's DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter). It was retrofitted to an existing engine and really doesn't work well on older cars often giving lots of problems.

There was also an official VOSA recall on the PD170 where all the injectors were replaced for free, however some cars were badly affected and never ran the same again.

The Advert also says it has Xenons with washers, it doesn't.  They are projecter lights

Could be a Seat surgeons leather Re-trim

It's also a long way from home, it's Bristol registered

Leather upgrade from dealers was a £1400 option which is exactly as in the picture. Mine has the same and it was carried out by the dealer.

My fl model was for sale for a lot less than that

I like the seats !  Not a fan of the red piping but otherwise very nice leather seats.  As for the car itself, a 57 plate pre FL for £7500 is a joke, he's trying to recoup the small fortune he spent on modifications.  In that condition, with all those mods in place I wouldn't give more than £4700 for it and that's assuming the condition and history are there.

Thing is, I think it's a trade seller.

If you google earth the dealers address, near Fife Airport there is no garage but there appears to be some out buildings and what looks like a small industrial/farm estate.

Ah, one of those.

it seems horrendously overpriced I bought my car, albeit a hatchback, which is an 07 plate Laurin and Klement 2litre TDI for £4,488 with. 70,400 mikes on the clock in July last year.

Was that a private sale? Or a used car dealer? I'm struggling to find one in that kind of price range on Auto Trader or eBay Motors.

It was from Arnold Clark in Glasgow on South St ....

So, is it worthwhile stretching the budget for CR engine over a PD one?

General rule of thumb. Never buy a car from someone who claims to be a dealer that only has a mobile number as contact. I have never hear of the garage in Lochgelly and I literally live 10 miles from there.

Something doesn't seem right.

He has a blue one for sale and can't even describe it correctly.

http://www.motors.co.uk/car-38757398/2/srs

Definitely does not have full leather. Looks the same as mine, half leather/half cloth.

Something just seems off with this dealer. If Vrs are rare to come by. How does he have at least 4 all different ages.

I am sure the blue one he is selling is Race Blue metallic not pearlescent blue.

I think he comes across as a bit of a cowboy seller. Having spoken to you guys, I'm steering clear.

That would be my advice. I am sure that you will find a vrs soon. Just a pity it wasn't a couple weeks ago you were looking. There were two for sale which looked a good buy (I bought one of them race blue metallic hatchback) the other was a vrs estate in grey if I remember rightly. Must have been sold as it's not advertised for sale anymore.
