View of driver's side mirror in driving rain

Featured Replies

I have only noticed for the first time over the last two or three days of foul weather that the water being driven off the windscreen by the right hand wiper runs along the driver's side window obscuring the view of the mirror. The nearside is fine. Has anyone else experienced this, and more importantly, identified a fix?

Thanks in advance

RainX, or similar, on the side window will help.

The water from the nearside wiper is pushed down into the scuttle tray out of the way by the drivers side wiper.

The water from the offside wiper however is pushed to the edge of the windscreen, where it flows into a channel created by a black plastic strip. The water exits the channel at the top of the windscreen and up onto the roof.

If however the rain is hard and the channel is overwhelmed then the water exits the channel at the mid point, which is at the same height as the drivers door mirror.

I have noticed this on mine too but have to say the rain needs to be very hard for it to happen, which for me at least isn't often enough for it to both me.

Wind deflectors, we had the same problem on a MKII Fabia Vrs. It's the shape of the mirror that causes it, bit like a mini vortex

As Auric says get some wind deflectors they are great plus you can have your window partly open without getting soaked :)

As anove. We got the hako units from superskoda and they work a treat. I put a thread up on these somewhere. We are just on the ferry over to calais having done a significant roadtrip (swiss - france - uk - swiss) and with the terrible weather the uk is having we had no problems using the mirrors at speed in heavy rain on the motorways and autoroutes. Bring able to keep windows open 1/4 inch helped too. Try them...

Oops - double post......sorry.

Looks like you've developed a stutter whilst being in the UK.   :notme:

Is the Channal rough?

Mine did this until I applied Aquapel to both side windows. Now the water flies off at great speed , providing a good view of both mirrors in this awful weather we're currently experiencing.

The side channel seems to be overwhelmed when driving in heavy rain, causing water from the screen to spill over to the side window.

Aquapel? Not heard of that but will look it up.

It's a rain repellent that lasts for ages, 6-12 months depending on where it's applied. I'd avoid using it on the windscreen as it makes the wipers squeak and shudder in my experience.

Carpro Flyby also very good for this, make sure you follow the instructions.

Turtlewax eqv of RainX is very good as well.

Just giving the windows a regular wipe with a damp cloth helps to cut down on dirt. I find the Fabia mk2 worse than the mk1 and my Superb with this. Got to keep on top of keeping those windows clean!
