Mystery of the vanishing headlamp wash covers

Featured Replies

Before Christmas I saw i had a black hole in my front bumper where the offside headlamp wash cover used to be.

I duly ordered, sprayed and fitted a replacement.

This morning I found the nearside cover missing........

Do they just fall off when they get old or is something else going on??

Any ideas?

Something else I fear

One of mine mysteriously disappeared too :-(

Is the car parked off the road?!

Weak plastic clips get brittle and break, mine pinged off when I closed the bonnet so I glued them back on.

It doesn't take much to weaken or loosen them, easily lost.

I'd imagine you could count the number of Octavia's in Driffield on one hand, let alone those fitted with headlight washers so the fact that someone close to you that...

Owns on Octavia,

Owns an Octavia the same colour,

Owns an Octavia the same colour and one fitted with headlight washers,

Owns an Octavia the same colour and one fitted with headlight washers and loses a cap,

Owns an Octavia the same colour and one fitted with headlight washers and loses a cap and then another cap,

...is highly unlikely  :D

Thanks for your comments everyone.

It's parked on the road and I noticed the first one missing after a trip to West Yorkshire but yesterday I only went to Tescos in Driffield.

In mysteries on the TV it often seems to be the Caretaker that is the culprit but I shall buy another cover, paint it and hope the (young) plastic clips will hold tight :-)

There is constant tension on the cover when not in use. They stop the washer units returning fully in. Along with weak/old plastics, wind is also a factor. That's how I lost one on the A9 two years ago.
