Rear View Camera

Featured Replies

I was wondering what people's thoughts were of the RVC? How are you finding it to use and which settings do you have it on?

Also, I heard somewhere that Jaguar RVCs can be turned on at any speed through their car's infotainment system. Is this possible with the Superb? Could be a fun little gimmick for the little ones

Have RVC on my Yaris and OPS on my Superb. I prefer the OPS over th RVC any day.

Pretty sure I passed a Mazda 6 today and it was showing a view of the road - we were travelling at speed on the motorway?

`OPS`?

In the Jaguar XE you certainly can turn on the rear view camera and watch the car behind you...if you want!

My Mazda6 certainly does not show a view of the road.

Optical Parking System = Sensors with view on infotainment screen.

I've ordered mine with the reversing camera but as Skoda haven't seemed fit to supply the car yet I can't tell you. But after having it on my last car it was a must. If you have a decent size screen you get a widescreen view of what is behind you which is far better than looking over your shoulder, they work well in poor light too.

I find it excellent, really clear even in the dark. It is weird how it stays on for a while when you move forward. I do be paranoid I left the car in reverse! Well worth adding if it's not standard.

Thumbing thru the SKODA accessories brochure I noticed this under the heading 'parking camera'.

camera with front wiring pack for left-hand driving (3V0 054 634); camera with front wiring

pack for right-hand driving (3V0 054 634A); rear wiring pack (3V0 054 634B); rear wiring

pack for Superb Combi (3V0 054 634C)

Does anyone know if this means the rear facing camera can be added as after market option? It looks that way from the brochure.

You also have OPS if you have the RVC fitted.

I used mine in ‘anger’ yesterday and it enabled me to get a fair bit closer to the car behind me as I was reversing into the parking bay... which thanks to an inconsiderate BMW driver was very tight (he was in 1 ½ parking bays, but he did pay for the privilege as there was a parking ticket stuck to his windscreen!!  :D

Thanks to the camera I managed to reverse probable another 10” or so after the continuous beep from the sensors.

This sounds good to me and I imagine with some brighter LED reversing lights you'd see more on the night when reversing into a bay.

Any one know if it can be switched on to view the road behind when driving forwards? Like along a motorway etc?

No it can't do that re camera going forward. Yeah I put reverse LEDs in & they help.

Mine doesn't show any functions to switch it on when going forward. TBH I can't really see a need for it (that's why we have interior mirrors perhaps?), and given that it gets filthy from the cr@p thrown up on wet roads it won't be much use for very long.

When it is clear it is not bad in full darkness. Brighter reversing lamps would help as you might expect, but it is usable 'as built'.

I retrofitted an OEM Touran RVC to my Mk2 Superb and it was a must have option on the Mk3! I had one on my Primera way back in 2002 and missed it when it was gone.

Only a few weeks ago I spotted my toolbox in the camera which probably kept me from reversing over it!

Some of the VW cameras pop out of the VW boot logo which keeps them clean. I've actually developed a habit of cleaning the camera lens each time I open my boot - OCD methinks.

You can switch on the reversing camera whilst travelling forward, but only you're stationary or almost stationary and at very slow speeds. As soon as you reach 3mph or similar it turns back off. Just press the parking sensor switch to activate it manually.

I also use it to see if someone's approaching the car so I can pop the boot open for them.

Brilliant thanks Chad!

I imagine there could be a VCDS tweak to increase the 3mph threshold? Any thoughts Gizmo/MTL?

It would be gread if VCDS could be used to change the speed limit where the camera turns off.

If I had the camera turned on today I would have noticed earlier that my cargo was sliding on the trailer.

Luckily it only hit the registration plate :)

Brilliant thanks Chad!

There are certainly speed limits in the adaptations, however mine currently state:

Camera on = 30 km/h

Camera off = 35 km/h

Which seems strange as it comes on from stationary and goes off at approx 5 mph.

Have you played around by extending these limits? And out of curiosity... Can you turn off the camera as well after having Engaged reverse?

No I didn’t try changing them

Can the camera on 30 km/h mean that you can enable it at 30 km/h and under and it then turns off at 35 km/h?

  • 7 years later...

Is there a way to keep the camera off and instead have the sensor graphic. I prefer the graphic to the camera

Yes, you can. It’s in the manual.
