sorry if this has been asked before

I'd like to know for sure what oil  is needed for the 1.2 110 hp petrol  for fixed 10000 km service intervals

the actual brand used would be good if possible

also

what coolant brand is used (  i think its g13 pink )   to what water ratio ?

any help appreciated - its for my own knowledge .

actually seems this is the engine oil,  so its the coolant i need to find out about

castrol EDGE 5W-30 LL

The coolant which I do think is still G13 (but that is written on the coolant canister cap if in doubt) shall not be diluted.

I wonder?  I keep meaning to ask my VW dealer this same question, but keep forgetting, BTW the only oils on display in the service/parts customer area were 0W-30 and  5W-40  - I know that that means nothing in this discussion, though the "handy top-up pack" also in the display did have 5W-30 LL !  The Quantum 0W-30 did not seem to have the current VW petrol oil numbers on the container. Finally, I think that I forgot to ask the parts guy because I don't think that I would have been given the true answer.  Our late 2009 Ibiza gets 5W-30 - then 5W-40 when Seat service it, my early 2011 S4 gets Mobil One 5W-30 - then 0W-30 when the Audi dealer services it. I'm sure that a lot of us worry too much about the actual "weight" of oil that gets used, but it would seem best to use what the engine was filled with at the production plant - okay oils advance and so maybe preferred "weights" with 0W-30 being given "green" credentials for saving fuel and so emissions, but some of us would probably put engine wear reduction before fuel/emissions?

For me, maybe this is just an academic question as the Polo 1.2TSI 110PS does not currently use any oil and I've signed it up for 3 years servicing - I'd still like to know what it was initially filled with though.

Edit:- actually I think that you will find that it is not a 10,000Km service period, it should be 15,000Km which seems to translate to 10,000Miles, though daughter's late 2009 Ibiza is set up for 9,400Miles or 372 Days - which explains why it was not warning me about its next service when I expected it to!

I know that a few of us appear to being a bit precious when it comes to service fluids, the would be experts just scoff and say "read the spec in the hand book" - the exact information we are looking for seems to be missing in some VAG hand books, for me, once I know the general spec from the hand book, I'd also like to know the "weight" of oil used at initial fill and suggested for future use based on where the car gets used.

You quoted Castrol Edge 5W-30 LL - well that is the only top-up oil that seems to be on sale from VAG dealers in the "handy oil + case" kits, which might or might not be exactly what the engine runs best with - from the dealer's point of view it is the correct oil as it is the only one they sell for top-up - so at least it will be safe to use.

Coolant, diluting it 50/50 is okay for where you stay, there are hints for its use on the packaging (I think) though I seem to remember they might be a bit vague.

 i now see that in the the service manual says for petrol

that the oil  for   fixed services on petrols  should be  vw 502 00  spec   ,   4 ;ltres

for ql1 ql-4 servicing

 and for ql6  its is vw 504 00

  ql6 =  variable - service when the car tells you .

 my car is ql3 servicing  according to the build spec . = fixed servicing

QI3  =  Every 10,000 km or 1 year

ql1 =  5000 km  or 1 year

ql2 = 7500 km or one year

ql4 = 15000km or one year

for diesela it is all vw 507 00  spec no matter the service interval

castrol edge 5w 30  does this and the  504 00 spec

the oil for 502 00   is

  =  castol edge 5w 30 A3 / B4

 (   note not same as the edge 5w 30 )

for coolant  =   g13

and for protection down to -25   it is 60%  coolant  40%  water (  they say drinking water  ,  but id say distilled is preffered )

but 50/50  would cover it id say .

they also specify putting in a fuel injector cleaner in the full full tank at every service for petrols

– Fill the fuel tank with multi-purpose additive -G 001 770 A2 (90 ml)- or -G 001 780 M3 (200 ml)- for petrol engines at each service event

The Castrol EDGE 5W-30 LL will be exceeding the VW 502 requirement though, I though/think that VAG has tried to save people getting confused and any oils you buy from them will be LL .

You have just reminded me that I was going to "aquaint" myself with the latest VW engine oil specs - as they move on with time, this being prompted by what I say on the "lesser" oil offering being sold in my VW garage (lesser = petrol only I think), I think it quoted VW 506.

Interesting to read about the fuel injection system cleaner, that will let them mark up the bill a bit!

VW / Skoda are happy with customers using Castrol / Quantum Full Synthetic Long Life oil. VW 504 / 505 / 507 etc

There are engines they produce that run perfectly well with great longevity when Full Synthetic VW 502 00 etc is the correct spec and

the Oil and filter is changed at fixed service intervals. 9,400 miles (10,000)

There are Official Dealerships that will use this spec, and others that say no way Jose.

If in doubt, then use what the Manufacturer Recommends but that does not mean you need to let Official Dealerships Upsell.

Warning, my reference to VW spec 506 is wrong as far as petrol engines are concerned, maybe 0W-30 for petrol engines will end up getting 508 spec when that spec is released as it sounds like it will get applied to an "energy efficient"  oil!

I had a 2011 Toyota iQ 1.0 l Petrol Euro 5 and the Oil was 5W 30 when they were launched, and as more owners complained over the poorer fuel consumption than the Euro 4 engines had,

Toyota changed the Recommended oil to 0w 30 for the New cars and when being serviced. To reduce fuel consumption. (we would guess.)

With the VW 1.4 TSI 132-136kW Twinchargers the Oil is 5w 30,  VW 504 00,

If you have a 2009-2012 and do Fixed Serving but it is a bit of an Oil User, then 5w 40 VW 502 00 can help reduce oil use,

and actually help lower the oil temp in normal operation.

(Not official, just experience and the knowledge of others experiences.)
