  • Well picked up my new car today... a Leon Cupra Initial verdict.... F**K its quick!! (of course it would be after a Citigo)

  • My R arrived on Friday along with my Dad's GTI!  Didn't even know there was a part two to this thread so have missed 9 pages!

  • I do sometimes think that copying and pasting (without editing) makes it awfully hard for people to instantly see what's trying to be said! Any chance of some pruning the next time please Keith?

Looking forward to the upcoming Mk8 Golf announced thread & a release date, then offers and run out Mk7 models.

Maybe some fantastic deals on Golf GTD's in 2016.

Facelifts to come first before a Mk8 & a few years before a Mk8 Golf R.

http://carwow.co.uk/news/Volkswagen-Golf-Mk8-2017-price-specs-and-release-date-2367

*This article has no real true facts on upcoming engines or gearbox eg 10 speed DSG,

but it looks like in 2016 there will be Diesel Golfs running around the Official VW Bodges of Zip Ties on Pipe Work and Bits of Plastic pipe & grill stuck in Air intakes and official Remaps done in 20 minutes by VW Technicians. These will not be Mk8 Mules being tested, just Euro 5 TDI's.*

Look at this for a GTD PCH - I'm seriously tempted!

Nice...............

I usually fit my own stuff, but with all the trim etc I decided to go factory fit. You get better speakers in the same 8 places, additional subwoofer which rests inside the skinny spare wheel in the boot well, and an amp under the passenger seat, & the HU now acts like a pre-amp.

You get 3 or 4 preset sound equs, and a nice individual setting which allows bass,mid,treb.....................no where near the adjustments I had on the Pioneer set up in my Fabia (slope, equ, etc)....BUT it is very good out of the box for a factory set up. No point in better as road noise etc., & I like to sit still & concentrate on music if I am being picky........so that's a no no in a moving car.......

Keith you should bring your Golf R to the spring performance car Action day at Castle Combe. Non-skoda owning Brisky members are welcome. Maybe even get the R out on track too......! ;-)

Tom,

Thanks for your invite to meet up at Castle Coombe, unfortunately I'm away with the missus and her son for his 17th birthday.

So won't be around to attend ,shame as it's on my doorstep.

Also not sure what car I will be driving by then!!lol

I'm sure we will be able to meet up in the not too distant future & compare physical notes on JCW and R.

Cheers

Keith

Some interesting wheel options. Actually didn't mind the 17" s on the estate, looked OK.

Thanks for info.

That's a shame, enjoy the celebrations though.

Are you looking to chop the R in for something else?

Damn. I'd of come so you could show us all how to go on in the R ;):D

Thanks mate, have you heard A3 B&O? Just wondering how compare?

Might be one of these as a silver surfer Tom.lol

Worth noting that companies like B&O arent putting there best stuff into factory upgrades. They are a little better than the standard ones, but arent anything like the products they offer, or any other good audio manufacturer offers for aftermarket use.

The amount car makers pay the audio manufacturers is only a small amount.. so in turn they only get a slightly better product.

If you take a B&O speaker out of an A3, it wont even look like a high quality item.

The best way, if you're really bothered is aftermarket upgrades.

There was an article about in a car stereo magazine not so long ago.

Example.. heres a link to some Bose speakers out of an Audi...

Even looking at that, you can tell its ****e.

^^^^Can you easily install decent speakers within the existing housings and would they give any improvement without upgrading the other end.

I'm talking like the standard DAB composite media system.

Yup

I put Audison Prima's (good for standard integration) in my Fabia, looking at the car you wouldn't know they're there, everything looks standard. Even with the standard Swing stereo they sounded 10000x times better. The sound stage improved massively, more low end, more mids, more precise and crystal clear highs.

The thing with standard speakers is that they're made to a price, and they're made to withstand and idiot turning them up stupidly out of their comfort zones. They're designed to just not break, at least until the cars out of warranty, even the basket is flimsy plastic.

Aftermarket ones are soo much better items.. even by just looking at them you can tell. Then you turn them on and you can literally hear that the OEM ones are about £3 and what you've just put in is a speaker thats been designed to work to the best standard.

Could do with some help on my stereo speakers and would love a small subwoofer. Used to have one in my Freelander 2 and it helped with some "Muse" songs :)

This is still Golf R incase anyone shouts take it to the HiFi section...almost ;)

Do it ;).

I havent got a sub.. Yet..

I did swap out the Swing for a Zenec unit. Which improves sound massively again. The oem units (i did try a Columbus) tend to be low powered and the levels adjust as you up the volume (to protect the crap oem speakers). Aftermarket units give you a much better sound, but also it stays the same good quality, just gets louder.

It all depends how far you want to go with it i guess, but beware, you get a taste for it :D.

Do you have a good local ICE shop you could pop into? They'd likely give you some ideas. I use a really good one but its probably abit far from you :D. Its in Macclesfield.

No I haven't..........however mum has a mid 80's B&O full set & generally B&O is very clinical & light............good for classical, opera lots of highs singing etc.....................

give it some Rock, metal, rap, dance & it's missing the low end.......& B&O all sound like that, it's their ethos.............

In the Golf the standard speakers are ok, its the HU settings which fubar the set up...............loads of topics on golf MK7 forum on this ........

Ok thanks mate. The A3 B&O is actually really good. So much better than standard systems and makes our canton octy sound awful.

That said I've heard good reports of golf system too so I'm curious. I don't need an award winning set up but just want a good system :)

Golf Dynaudio is better than the MK3 Octavia canton etc...........also their sub is a small box in the side of the boot & blows under the boot floor, not very effective compared to having the sub in the spare in the well..........

I quite like those. Surprised you are thinking of changing the R though. Which model are you looking at?

Might be an initial look see and test in one of these in the coming weeks.

Checkout it out to see if I can justify it above the R.

Then do the numbers and options game.

Good luck with the car search Keith. The Jag would be just too big for me and the misses, they do luck nice just the whole residuals issues with bigger cars I would struggle with.

Are modern Jags showing a bit more resilience?

How do the 3 year figures stack compared to the R?

You'd be surprised just how 'snug' they are inside then! Not a lot of backseat space if the front passengers are even moderately tall.
