So you're migrating from a R hatch to the estate? You didn't fancy more of a change?

  • Well picked up my new car today... a Leon Cupra Initial verdict.... F**K its quick!! (of course it would be after a Citigo)

  • My R arrived on Friday along with my Dad's GTI!  Didn't even know there was a part two to this thread so have missed 9 pages!

  • I do sometimes think that copying and pasting (without editing) makes it awfully hard for people to instantly see what's trying to be said! Any chance of some pruning the next time please Keith?

What do you mean, that's a huge change for Keith!!!

Huge difference of functionality.

3 door manual to 5 door estate DSG.

The difference from ooo to ahhh as they say down the dogging areas.

Big boot will be sooooo much more useful to Keith when he's out dogging too ;-)

999pooch,

Shame you are not keeping the Faith!! lol

Never saw that on the Journos review, under the Estates Pros - Dogging ability 5Star!

You are reading the wrong publications. Golf R estate was recently voted Car of the year by the readers of Dogging Weekly lol ;-)

Never say never, the jury is still well and truly still debating ;)
I did see this one last week.

Looks quite cheap at first glance. However because it's only a 12m contract the deposit is proportionally very high.

Works out at £358 / month as a true monthly rental. My current lease company are doing them cheaper than that over the normal 6 + 23 and at 10kpa :)

Personally I think leasing/PCH is becoming the best method now to drive a new car. Seems better value than PCP these days and even seems to undercut the depreciation loss suffered by paying cash :-)

Quite tempted to look at a PCH deal when the fabia is due for replacement. Sell it privately and jump off the PCP roundabout and go down the leasing route instead.

Soon to me moving on ! "Extended "fun and capability.

150 mile run-in drive home but not this quick!

Good luck with the new stretched one.

I can fully understand why you have stuck with the same car in principal :)

I too, cannot see anything for £28k with full 4x4-300ps and sub 5 second 0-60 and still give me 30mpg most days to tempt me out of my R hatch.

Mind you that said the 2017 Toyota Supra is an interesting beast, worthy of keeping an eye on.

Ben,

Unfortunately no Ikea capability or appropriate agility on Devon/Wiltshire country roads I suspect. Looks good and spec sounds interesting. However, think Porsche 718 would be for me in that class.

Just get the Polo GTI on the IKEA run :)

Or in my case the wife's Citigo!

TBH not looking at anything ATM as happy with the R hatch, the wife told me so.

Isn't the Supra going to be quite costly though?

Rumours on the American side are $45000-$55000 which in today's money is starting around £31k (ish) and seems to be a collaboration with BMW?

Only things I have read on interweb so do not shoot me if I have things muddled ;)

I've seen the mention of a possible BMW tie up and the potential use of their 6 cylinder engine. But usually the dollar cost of something translates into the same number with a pound sign in my limited experience :( Can't see something that gorgeous, sonorous and potentially quick, will be anywhere near the R price :( :(

Not sure you can get much further away from a Golf if you tried  :D

Until the Focus RS comes along? 345bhp, 4x4 and about £28k i think?

£29,995 on the Focus RS now is it not, or are discounts available?

Maybe one of those cars that if you are lucky enough to get delivery on the first ones can be sold for a profit immediately,

which is pretty rare for a car under £30,000 RRP.

....................................

The lower powered Golf Estates with 2wd might have a bit of competition from an estate with AWD but not from VAG.

The very odd looking Subaru Levorg 1.6i DiT Lineartronic is available at dealers for under £24,000.

(They are in BTCC 2016 you know!!)

Might be yeah. I thought i saw £28k in Evo mag yesterday, but i might well be wrong.

I've no doubt the focus will be a good buy tbh. I reckon itll hold its value pretty well.

But if the GT86 pricing is anything to go by (was targeted at £16k originally and that married up with the US listings, but was never going to be), then I wouldn't be surprised at a £38min pricetag for the new Supra.

And for a start... The production cost of the body and that electro-mechanical rear spoiler will not come cheap.
