New Golf R - Part 2

Featured Replies

But if the GT86 pricing is anything to go by (was targeted at £16k originally and that married up with the US listings, but was never going to be), then I wouldn't be surprised at a £38min pricetag for the new Supra.

It might be different for Japanese cars that are given a dollar figure, but when I sold American cars, it nearly always worked out a $50K American truck was £50K sterling when we sold it. obviously the Japanese cars don't need to get the DVLA involved :D Also would BMW want a 3.0 Toyota Coupe to outperform and yet undercut it's own 4 series if it was donating the engine and gearbox etc

  • Well picked up my new car today... a Leon Cupra Initial verdict.... F**K its quick!! (of course it would be after a Citigo)

  • My R arrived on Friday along with my Dad's GTI!  Didn't even know there was a part two to this thread so have missed 9 pages!

You won't be able to sleep tonight :)

They are so understated, just nothing shouts too much, well maybe the quad exhaust is ott but IMO it is such an inconspicuous car in either guise.

Managed a few hours out in mine today, bit of mixed driving out in the fog and damp most of the time but it pulled and grips so well ;)

New car collection day tomorrow then! Always great fun. Looking forward to seeing some pics ;-)

Seem to be some half decent PCH deals on the estate coming through now, I think they're a fantastic car, looking forward to some more photos - good luck with the collection.

Whilst not wanting to detract from the new car happiness in anyway I priced up a BMW 530d M Sport saloon vs a Golf R DSG estate (same terms) and the Beemer came out cheaper, albeit about £40.  Got me wondering...............

The big Beemer diesels have enormous discount, which certainly helps things like PCPs etc. Nearly £10K off a 335D (4x4, 8 speed auto and 0-62 in around 4.7 I believe)

Indeed and it makes them even more appealing!  The 530d didn't have XDrive, so not a true comparison? albeit the 335d is..........mmmmmm!

Well done VW Crewe Dealership, for giving a very positive customer experience and the very professional handover day of my New Golf R Estate.

Excellent personal service all round but particularly Sales exec, Oliver Bradshaw.

Very smooth 150 mile run-in drive home and re-education experience in getting behind the wheel of the R with the DSG.

However, the journey was predominately motorway,M6>M5, then about 20% deliberate cross-country detour via the Cotswold and the into my home territory of Wiltshire.

As with my Missus' brother - in laws R estate experience, a few months ago, the car handles very similarly to the Hatch around the country roads, so very pleased.

Really like the Night Blue colour, as it's not so much in your face, as my Hatches Lapiz Blue, which I also liked .So an even more subtle look.

Performance, engine a little tight. with nice DSG farts, running in Normal Mode and at an average journey speed of 50 mph it returned an initial 34.5 mpg. Very close to the long term average of my hatch.

So all in all, a great day and I've not even begun to use the additional assets of "Loads of Space"!

Ideal, glad you picked it up ok and are happy with it.

The DSG is a nice touch of laziness, you will soon have a few miles on it and get it loosened up.

Mine will not go over 28mpg but my journeys are town/country roads and around 16mile runs. Off to see daughter in March so should get a decent 600/800 miles including a motorway or two, no motorways down here :)

I'm not going to lie, the estate version looks great!

Good stuff. Pleased you're happy with it (:

Enjoy!

Looks great Keith, enjoy it :-)

thats a nice looking car, always something that bit special about fast estates!

Liking those figures on the Big BMWs as well,

Nice looking, almost went for this as my Fabia was the dark metallic blue, but this VW one is darker & less sparkly & almost black in certain lights which is why I didn't get it.

They defo did the same ride height as the standard estate sports suspension as yours is the same height as mine. Need to get the full on VW reinforced skid tray (GRP material) now which is an option in Germany & France but not here, however I ordered the parts from my dealer ok. & fit loads of other removable mods I can give you ideas & links............. :D

Oh & by the way, you will find that as the rear is more planted you go around the corners faster............ :sun:

Congrats on the new arrival!  It's always pleasing to hear that someone's had a good experience - the car is as it should be, the handover is good and you're treated as an individual.  Makes the drive home so much more enjoyable!  Very pleased for you, enjoy!

Is it normal for the headlight on the Golf R to fill up with condensation?

Noticed the other day, my o/s headlight was 3/4 badly fogged up inside the lens area.

Yep, they're not sealed units.

Loads of threads on other forums of new owners asking the same question.

They will de-fog when it warms up :)

My Audi A4s headlights (Xenons) did this. :(

Must be an age thing!?

Ben,

Is that after leaving the car for a few days, without use?

My Hatch was used daily and I never experienced this fogging up.

I have seen it mentioned on other VW owners sites.

Does it clear fairly promptly after start up?

Edited by vrskeith

Cheers for confirming its normal, as usual someone always has an answer :)

Wasn't sure if they were a sealed unit.

Yes Keith, it cleared and had been sat for about 10 or 12 days :(
