Reliable boost on a PD150 GT1749VB turbo

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Simple question: What boost pressure should I be running on a brand new stock PD150 turbo in order to be reliable? Car has a Milltek, FMIC, EGR delete and Sachs clutch. I'm not chasing numbers, I just want it to be reliable, but around 190bhp and 300lb/ft would be nice!

Many thanks,

Rob

I'm very interested in this too as the my PD150 will be fitted in 2 weeks time. (I'm hoping for exact same figures...but I'm keeping the SMIC for now)

1.7bar you could push harder but no ideal on a stock turbo

At 1.7bar it'll be good for 190/195bhp.

It's been mapped to 1.9Bar spike (I assume at relatively low revs) and then levels out to 1.7bar which it holds to redline. Does that sound okay? Or should it be 1.7bar absolute max anywhere?

Sounds at top end of limit to me. :)

I ran a hybrid PD150 @ 1.8 bar perfectly safely but it was a bit stronger.

You expect a little overboost say 50-100mbar is normal. 1.9 bar does sound a little high.

Got a group 11 VCDS boost log?

I haven't John, it's still with the the tuners at the moment. They assure me it is perfectly safe, but I'm still a little bit anxious! I will try and figure out how to send you a log once it's back.

Either post here or email it over.

John loves a good log lol

Thanks John, will do. Although it may be preceeded by a post about how on earth to make a log in the first place...

VCDS is needed for this job, here is a great guide (btw this is John's site).
