Service interval

Featured Replies

My 110TDi 2001 Octy has not told me when its next service is due - I assume a message appears for a few seconds when it starts when one is soon to be due. Can I find out from Vag-com? Car is on about 81500 miles.

Cheers,

Matt

Car should tell you, as you start the car the trip display will show service for about 10 seconds after starting.

That is what I thought.... it has not decided to tell me yet.... I was wondering if such info is available via vag-com? How many miles warning do you get? Last 'service' was from the non-skoda dealer I bought the car from in February this year.

I believe you get a warning at under 1000 miles - dont worry it wont demand you have one NOW ;)

good good.. christmas is going to cost me too much anyway!! I used to use mobile one full synthetic stuff in the HDi... any recommendations for this beastie? I only do about 10k a year (depending on work), so therefore assume it is better to have decent oil as it will be in there for longer!

There are 2 types of service intervals for the TDi, variable or fixed & both require different oils. To simplify it :-

Fixed is 10000 miles & the dealer will have reset it last time it was serviced so you will get a warning with a thousand to go which will count down in hundreds.

Variable is exactly what it says, the car has some fancy gadget which analises the state of the oil etc & decides when a service is due, if the car does a lot of miles on the motorway it can go many thousands before needing a service, our 110 Tdi has had 3 services, the last was at about 85000miles, thats an average of just over 28000 miles between services. The cars can be switched at the next service to whatever you want. Doing only 10000 a year I would opt for fixed as the car gets looked at once a year, over 2 years is a long time to go between services also the oil is a lot cheaper

Maintenance interval and driving style

The service interval extension allows extremely long service intervals. The possible intervals are not always reached.

This has a lot to do with the conditions under which the vehicle is used.

If the vehicle is driven economically and mainly on long trips, it can reach a

maximum service interval of 30,000 km or 2 years for petrol engines or

50,000 km and 2 years for diesel engines.

If the vehicle is driven very uneconomically or under extreme conditions, e.g.

short distances, the shortest service interval is 15,000 km or 1 year.

I only do 10k a year and still prefer to be on variable servicing. Because most of my driving is in town, the computer has worked out the 1st service will be at about 12k (currently). The longlife oil is of a much higher standard than the oridinary fully synthetic stuff they use for fixed servicing. I'd much rather run longlife oil for 11 or 12k than the ordinary stuff for 10k.

I don't think the other components that are replaced during the service are likely to degrade such that damage would be caused to the car during the extra 2000 miles or so. Cost is of no concern to me as servicing is included in my lease deal and even if it wasn't, i'd still want variable servicing.

Our Ocatvia probably gets "average" use with lots of shortish shopping trips and some longer runs. It does 9-10,000 miles per year and the variable service intervals come up roughly every 23 months (19,000 miles) - just before it would have to go in for a brake fluid change anyway.

On variable servicing the oil must meet 506.00, 506.01 or 507.00 spec. Basically this means Castrol Edge 5W30 or the new Mobil ESP 5W30. Both are *very* expensive.

Matt[/quote']You can use VAG-COM to find out whether or not the car is set for variable service intervals, but not when the next service is likely to be due.
