Der ... Sorry. In now !! LOL

I wouldn't reccomend this, it's just a resister (not like the Dragon tuning box type, that has power leads ect) I have heard these will cause error faults, regardless of what the adverts say, whereas people who've tried the dragon boxes say they work well... it's not alot of money though, so have a go if you're willing to risk it ;)

I wouldnt bother 18 quid for something you can make for 2.

12K car and you want to fit a 18 quid resistor to it.

Personally I wouldnt, but its up to you, it will work, but it will no doubt produce a fault code.

All the resistor mod does is keep the glow plug/fuel pre heater on, to heat up the fuel I believe before its injected!

You can buy the resistor needed for mere pence from an electonics supplier, I would guess a pack of ten is probably about 50p!!

I'd seriously think about whether its worth it or not, at leat with a Dragon or similar box you have some comeback if things go wrong, and the peace of mind to know that some R&D and testing has been done!!

For God's sake, Man......get a grip!

She cant even find the light switch !!

digitial one? why not get a remap. most digital ones cost as much as a GB remap.

Just to give a different angle, I got one of these chaps off eBay and it was the best bang-for-buck mod I did on the car. Never threw up any CEL and sailed through MOT and servicing. Sold on for a shade less than what I paid for it :D I looked at digital boxes but couldn't justify paying 10x more for a lot less than 10x performance increase and I ruled out a remap because I wouldn't get any money back when I sold the car.........

If the CEL does come on, the fault can be very easily cleared with VAG-COM :D

Have to agree with scooby chris, and balls to most of the other advice.

I have had a cheap analogue tuning box on the octy for over a year now, with no problems or excess black smoke, and no error logs. For the £40 i paid, it was as chris said the best "bang for buck" mod you can buy.

All those who are recommending dragon boxes, fair enough, i have heard a lot of good stuff about them. But for an extra £300 they only give the same power increase as a cheap analogue box, only a little more refined.

I have had a digital tuning unit before for years. It was a HOPA unit, and one of the best available (£400) and i have to say if i had the choice of purchasing a digital HOPA box for £200 (half price) or an analogue unit for £40, the analogue would win hands down every time!!

For £18 what have you got to lose, if you don't like it after a month, then sell it on.

Good luck

I have used one of these before. Produced tons of smoke in 3rd and 4th when giving it some wellie. The unit brought up a fuel temp sensor - "impluasible reading" fault code.

Wouldn't waste your cash.

as I have said many times before why are people buying

there is a cracking group buy on the AMD one click at the mo. For the 350 quid you get a good remap that can be switched back to Factory settings within 5 mins - plus the remap has been tried and tested, gives great results and the switchable aspect is a god send if your car is under warranty. Now, bite the bullet and get your name on the list.

Hay ho Conflict! Your not convincing me to spend £250 more on a digital tuning box. Nor am I convinced on spending £20 on an analogue unit. I NEED HARD EVIDENCE GUYS

 Is this a remap or a digital box or an anologue box?

Dragon digital box ....set on 11

Do you have a printout of an analog one to compare ;)

Chris

Ok, here is my opinion on all three-

1 - remap, will undoubtedly give the best results as has the highest amount of time/research but at the highest price, some form of comeback on the suppliers, but also the possibility of damage to the Ecu although personaly i've never heard of it happening. will void your warranty if Skoda ever check it.

2 - Dragon (or similar), will give results not far off a remap but may trigger warning lights, also some form of comeback on suppliers, will void warranty as above but can be removed quickly and no trace is left, relatively cheap compared to re-map and similar effort goes into tuning the 'maps' although it cant control the number of parameters a re-map can hence slightly less powerful results.

3 - resistor mod, Unknown results, unproven untested technology, very cheap however and does produce results which for the price cant be moaned at, however it will never produce anything like the results of the above 2 as all it does is heat the fuel up a bit (Skoda never intended the heater to stay on for long periods so could affect reliability) you also have no comeback on the supplier at all, it will affect the warranty but would be the easiest and quickest to remove leaving no trace, most likely of the 3 to trigger warning lights.

I think that basically explains the pro's and con's of each, the rest is up to you really, we cant tell you what to do, you must make a decision based on the information supplied, i've tried to be as impartial as possible but in my opinion the best compromise was the Dragon Digital box, so I bought one - brand new for under

Many thanks

No but it was very different driving wise between the two.......analouge made my clutch slip because the power came in ALL at once....digital is much smoother :D
