BMW X4 anyone?

Featured Replies

Popped into the BMW garage this evening, just because there was a 'Y' in the day.  Lots of lovely motors of course but I was looking for something a little different, something to stand out from the crowd.

I sat in the new X1 (a 218d) - boy that didn't look as good as the photos suggested and the quality of the interior materials seemed a massive drop down from the rest of the vehicles on show.

I liked the 3 and 5 series Gran Turismo models along with the M Sport X3.  Then, there it was........a white 2.0d X Drive M Sport X4.  In essence it looked like a scaled down version of the X6 but was somewhat easier on the eye.

The only personal downside was the seating, very comfortable with the exception of the side hugging bolsters - I'm by no means fat but without a waistline like Wayne Sleep they appear to dig into your sides rather than support them.

Anyway, that aside, I'd be interested to hear if anyone has bought one or used one for any length of time to provide feedback, as there are some half decent PCH deals on these at the mo, or any thoughts about them at all!

I know I don't like new cars anyway, but without a doubt, that's the worst looking thing I've ever seen.

Here's a test when looking at a BMW, get a picture of it, put something over the badge grill and lights and ask someone whos not seen it before

a) does it look good?

B) what manufacturer do they think made it?

Mmmmmm......not for me it looks a lot like that disgusting, oversized, ostentatious monstrosity of an X6.

IMO. :(

I had an X4 30d M-sport out for 24hours. Really liked the way it drove but felt abit self-conscious in it. It was a black one with black wheels so full drug-dealer spec lol.

Did you adjust the side bolster position? There is usually a little switch on the side of the seat which can either draw them in or push them out for more comfort.

I agree. It also has certain contentions about the person driving it (regardless of whether they are or aren't!)

White just doesn't do anything for it imo either. Doesn't help to disguise the sheer bulk of the thing. And the arch to wheel gap isn't right for some reason. Can't put my finger on it:

My boss is looking to replace his current SEAT Alhambra with an X3 but was seriously peeved at the lack of attention shown in the local BMW dealer; it was the receptionist who gave him a tour and she wasn't exactly knowledgeable about the brand, not her fault though. Plus every model was only available in M Sport guise.

That X4 is hideous though.

Er, can't disagree with you on that!

It's less offensive than an X6, but only cause there's a bit less of it.

Not my cup of tea at all. BMW make some nice SUVs and some nice Coupes, but melting them together fails miserably.

There's something funny about the top left of that rear wheel arch. It looks almost as if it's been squared off. Most weird. Of course it could be a trick of the photo

Remember when the 5 Series changed shape? Lots of uproar about the new design but it just needed getting used to.

Hmmm not a fan tbh. I would actually get the X6 if I had the money to waste, just to p**s people off lol. At least that has size on it's side. If I was having to chose one of those big'ens personally though, I would go X3, they are lush.....

+1

I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder but....

Personally not a fan of the GT models either, they just look a bit fat arsed to me.

But some people must like them, plenty on the road.

It looks like it's a normal car except that it's "too tall"?

Has it been squashed by a bad photo program or is it really that shape?

Aaaaah!  The perfect solution!  I didn't realise the seats did that! Thanks.......

Well, I guess it's a miss rather than a hit.......I saw it like that at first but it's definitely a grower but obviously why there are a few deals to be had when compared to the other larger models.

I'm after something different, something with a good seating position (more arm chair than luge) and something the oldies will be able to get in and out of without too much drama! Ideas?

Has it been squashed by a bad photo program or is it really that shape?

That's what I thought, looks like someone took an Insignia, stuck a BMW grill on, shrunk the length, stretched it upwards until they could put some donk-look wheels on.

Has it been squashed by a bad photo program or is it really that shape?

I don't think so. Here is another for comparison

I just don't get it at all. The new Merc GL something is the same and the shape is just plain wrong

Same as every other BMW over the past 10 years or so, when I first see them I think they're awful, then after a few looks at them they grow on me. I saw one of these a few months before xmas, was opposite my uncles house, he liked it I thought it looked hideous. Roll on a few months and it's much more palatable now. I was the same with the X6 and quite like that now, a bit less so but the E90 was the same for me and I own one now. :D

Eeeew that Merc is nasty.

Well,I've been looking at a Golf R recently but I can do without scum sniffing around my house looking for the keys. Maybe this ugly thing won't be on their hit list! I'd love a VW Touareg............maybe a safer option?!

I would love a bmw 3 series Gt, 328 xdrive. The wife on the other hand, she won't let me buy a new car :(

Only BMW that looks good these days is the 6er Grancoupe and the last really good looking BMW was the E24 635Csi (I'm over 40)

If you pick the worst angle then you can find a bad perspective for any car.

The X4 is a good looking car, I'd have one.

God forbid Skoda would dare to be so stupid, oh...

Perhaps that is why we all drive Skoda's, a bit samey and generally dull?

Eeeeeewww!!!
