BMW X4 anyone?

Featured Replies

Never really understood the point of the X6 and now the point in the X4, or that merc!

Is it for off roading or pimping?

Neither, it is to get after the 'I'm taller and therefore better than you' mentality bred by the latest craze for soft roaders.

People sat in their £60,000+ BMW 7 Series, Audi A8, Merc S-Class being looked down on by a bloke in his £15,000 Renault Captur or Vauxhall Mokka!

Good God, no, not for me.  Just wanna try something a bit different n something so oldies don't cripple themselves trying to get in and out.  Gonna book a test drive for next week.............It's like any other car once you're inside, you don't see the outside looks!  Let's put things into perspective here......I currently drive an 07 plate Roomster! :x

You know it's going badly when you're asking yourself "Does it look better than a Roomster?" :)

Actually, I still fancy a Roomster as a work van.

Probably many in a X4 will wish after the novelty of the newness wears off that they were in a Roomster and could keep the cash to them selfs instead of paying out for the lease on the BMW and not getting let out at junctions and the likes.

They might become popular with the Young Mums  rather than the Evoque, X3, Q3, XC90 and the likes they drove while the other half has the Caddy or Double Cab pickup.

I quite like the Merc, in spite of myself. I can't bring myself to like the X4 or X6 though. I would fear other motorists might draw unfavourable conclusions about my personal habits the moment they see it and there's the issue with not being let out of side turnings mentioned by GoneOffskiroottoot ;)

The opposite seems to be true when I drive my wife's Panda. It's brilliant fun around town, but my God other motorists treat you like dirt when you drive a small car.

Eeeew that Merc is nasty.

The GLEwwwww   :D

Habits, like what? :D  I really am not perturbed by the conclusions others would draw of me   but I know where you're coming from when driving a small car - I had a little Ford KA donkeys ago and the number of folk on my rear bumper was astonishing!

I'll sell you mine if you want it...........!

Needs to be a 1.9 and cheap.

Has it been squashed by a bad photo program or is it really that shape?

I wondered that too, but the wheels look round.

Saw one in the flesh today. I must say, I do quite like it. It does seem to suit the shape better than the X6.

Yeah, I agree, a little less in your face than the X6.  In the process of booking a test drive...........

I looked at PCH deals for the X4, VW Touareg and Audi Q5 and the X4 comes out cheaper and less expensive to maintain.  The Q5 was only a manual box too.

I saw an X6 today. Naturally it was parked across two spaces :)

Is that all? I'd have thought that if you tried properly you could get it across 3, or one wheel each in 4! ;)

One way to prevent the supermarket door dings!

X6 and X4 are designed for people who have NOT been to Specsavers. Sorry, but they just are!

Why wouldn't you choose 530d Touring or 330d touring instead and pocket a few quid and enjoy a better drive?

I know where you're coming from, I used to think the same! Funny how tastes change. I agree with the alternatives but I need something easy for oldies to get in and out of too........once they fell into the arse to the tarmac seats they'd never get out again!

Ok, test over.  The car, if you can call it that, was AWESOME in every way.  The ride, handling, comfort, quality of materials and the 8 speed auto box coupled to the 30d engine was sublime, truly a fantastic machine.  It put the £50k worth of Range Rover Evoque I test a couple of weeks back to shame.  Also had a look at the newish Merc GLC - not as much kit for the money albeit the AMG Line looked the bees knees.

I made sure I was courteous to other road users, as I usually am, and received the same in return!  I didn't have time to park it up to see if I could get it in between the white lines of just one bay!

Deposit down then!?

I think I may just do that - it'll be the 20d M sport though as the budget won't stretch to the 30d.  I'm emailing the dealer tonight with rough PCH figures I found to see if they can match or better them - I'd like the local dealer to be able to supply the car if possible as they've done the leg work.
