Yeti turns three today!

Featured Replies

Time goes quickly, and our Yeti is now three years old. Probably the best car we have ever owned, as an ' all rounder'. 27k miles covered, and two front pzeros ready for replacing. Other than a scabby rear badge, it has not needed any extra fiddling. However, I was 'up sold' a Haldex fluid change on the three year service, and I'm not entirely certain that this was necessary yet - advice please. Also, the Yeti has had its last service at our local dealership. The service is, well, not conducive to me retaining my hair! Customer service is not understood there.

That's been my experience of main dealers for a number of years. The quality of service depends on the staff employed at any one time.

You can't even rely on them giving the same quality of service all the time as any good staff are often head hunted by other dealers.

I've never had any of my Skodas serviced by the supplying dealers partly because said dealers are often too far away from home.

Luckily I have a Skoda Aproved Service agent close to home and that's where they've all been serviced. They don't sell Skoda but have Skoda trained technicians and full access to official spares and access to the Skoda electronic services.  15 mins from home, loan car if required, (they are also a Mercedes Main dealer so you might get a Merc loancar!) valeting and competitive pricing.

I had my haldex oil changed recently at my local dealer after they confirmed it was every 3 years or 40,000 miles. Which I'm pretty sure is a different age and mileage limit to that quoted 3 years ago! (4years/60k!)

The only good thing was they had reduced the price to £65. They previously charged me £124!

Thanks to g6zru and Fin69 for your comments.

Interesting how many people post about poor dealer service - JD Power rate Skoda as one of the best and almost always consistently in the top 3! So either everyone else is really really bad, or most dealers are great but there are a few howlers out there but insufficient to buck the otherwise positive trend.

This sounds very much like Rivervale where I bought my Monte Carlo from. Not used them for servicing. would you rate them as ok?

Believe you me, I would love to crow about how good my dealer is - but quite frankly the whole experience left me turned off. The reception staff, two young ladies, are certainly in the wrong profession. They DO NOT understand anything about CUSTOMERS, and the fact that ultimately, that's who pays their wages.

I had intended to spend some time looking around the showroom, ended up just leaving instead. However, I did have a look around when collecting the Yeti - only because having dropped it off at 9am, and told it would be ready at 4pm, I was still there just before 5pm, still waiting.......

Unlike my old MG's, where you know that you have serviced them, if only by checking around the grease nipples, modern cars are more difficult to spot if ANYTHING has been done!

The Yeti is still a brilliant car though, and a hoot to,drive briskly!

Totally agree. The dealer experience leaves me cold but necessary to keep the car firmly under warranty

Absolutely, and couldn't have phrased it better - cold but necessary. We're it not for the warranty, I would happily go elsewhere. This IS NOT what one should have to experience. Having spent a working lifetime in sales and customer service, I am at a loss to explain this situation.

Correct! This is the third Skoda they have serviced for me and I can't fault them. The husband of a friend works on the MB side of things and has been there since he finished his apprenticeship as have most of the service staff, even service reception.

A loan car is always offered but as my wife shadows me to their premises we've never bothered asking for one. The first car we sent there was  a Roomster and we got a phone call from them an hour after leaving it, "did we know the panoramic roof was cracked"? Most certainly not so we thought the damage must have occurred during it's time with them. However they took pictures and referred to SUK who agreed it was a manufacturing defect and to be replaced FOC. They ordered the parts and arranged for it to go back in to be fixed. As it was glass they contracted it out to a windscreen company to fit at their premises so all we had to do was deliver the car to Rivervale and they did the rest. We got a phone call early the next morning to say it was fixed and ready to collect.

The only problem we discovered when we got home was when we went to lift the rear parcel shelf, it was missing! A quick phonecall to them and they discovered the fitters had taken it out when fitting the roof and forgotten to refit it. One of their delivery drivers arrived half an hour later and refitted it. We live 12 miles away from their premises so was impressed.
