Canton sound system, worth it?

Try FLAC instead of MP3. Little by little, I have replaced all my music to FLAC. Memory cards costs peanuts these days.

The jump from 320kbps MP3 to FLAC was not as noticeable. I had a Tidal streaming subscription and all my offline content for that was FLAC. But yes, in an ideal world FLAC is the one to go for :)

I think you need to let it go.

  • For me:   The Canton is "good", but not "great".   It is good value.   It's good enough to prevent me having to go down the route of expensive and unnecessary aftermarket

  • i ordered mine with it just to drown out the god awful din of 2 anti-christs in the back seats. Waiting for the car to be delivered so cannot comment on the sound quality

I was realy suprised when I heard that head units, even Bolero plays FLAC files. Not a lot of stock HU supports lossless formats, not even many of the aftermarket ones does.

Just to say my piece of mind. I have a brand new Octavia with Canton system for a week now, and I find it very pleasing. While it's notisable the speakers are not a high grade, top notch audiophile SQ class, I think, for the money, they are as good as you can get. Yes, the sub is tiny but I have enough of bass.

I had to play with the EQ to get a good sound, with treble almost all the way down and midle down by a half. Bass is at the middle point, and it varies from song to song.

I have compaired it to my friends Bose system in the new Mazda 6, and we both felt, while it was different, it was not worse by any means ( and half the price). And the speakers are not even breaken in.

I know what and how much it takes to get a deacent sound in a envirement such as car is and I feel tha Canton is doing a preaty good job at it. You don't get a good definiton, clarity and depth with this system, but you have to bare in mind that this is a 400 EUR priced extra option and for that you only get a single amp in a SQ world.

It will probably get better after some "burn in" time.

Agreed it's not a perfect system, but for the money it's damn good and I can't really complain. The treble is quite forward, so I have the eq flat for that (middle). Sub handles the bass at +9 so bass on the eq is +2 for me. Mids slider is at the middle as the mid range is fine as is for me. I do like the Soundstage of the system though, just a shame the sub doesn't have a bit more punch. You can just about feel it and you definitely know it's there, but a bit more feel would be perfect. The other benefit to canton is through the amping; it doesn't distort and maintains good clarity when you turn it up, whereas the standard System does and you lose that clarity.

For me:

The Canton is "good", but not "great".

It is good value.

It's good enough to prevent me having to go down the route of expensive and unnecessary aftermarket installations.

I think your answer is spot on and it answers the question of this topic.

Bang on.

I thought the same about bass at first, but who wants to deafen themselves, I'm certainly not a RnB fan so don't need to be rattling any windows.

For listening to good music with clarity at modest levels its more than adequate for the job and does it well. As something used purchase fitted already to car I vote for it :D
