Buyers guide for the Mk2 Facelift?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

thinking of upgrading to the Mk2 Facelift and wondered if there is a buyers guide. Or something to look out for when buying?

Can't find the answer, but is there a limited edition of the facelift? Because I quite like the interior of the limited edition, just not the model face.

Bump

The limited edition only came in pre facelift form, are you looking at a petrol or diesel & what model are you looking at?

The limited edition was a cross over of the two models.

It has the bodywork of the pre facelift, but the interior and electronics are from the facelift.

It's possible to swap the facelift front into the older cars if the older style really doesn't do it for you.

I was looking at the 2.0 CR TDI model. I have been looking around and it seems the diesels has quite low add-ons? Or at least in the blue colour they seem to.

Going to view a post facelift Mk2 2.0TDI vRS myself this weekend so interested to here if there is anything in particular to look out for.

From what I've read they seem rather reliable :)

If add-ons/extras are important then have you also considered an Elegance or L&K model rather than a vRS? Or are you set on the sportier look and bigger power of the vRS?

A CR140 is only 1 second slower to 60 and 8mph slower top-speed than a CR170 though.

The limited edition FL your thinking of is probably 'Blackline' It was produced as the last production vehicles prior to the launch of the MK3.

Unlike proper limited editions though they didn't number the vehicles with a plaque. However they are a very good buy because they have

the Black Neptune alloys, full leather and Amundsen plus with dab as standard. They were available in Race Blue, Black and White. I Had a

Race Blue one is was ace. Wish I hadn't traded it in and kept it.

Well it was more things such as Xenons and hand controls on the steering wheel. These seem to be greatly missing?

DSG or 6 speed?

Petrol or Diesel? Currently 10k a year, want to slash my over all fuel costs. 6 miles to work and back with lots of stop start and on the weekends I like to hit the motorways and travel out quite a lot (national trust) also might have to venture around for work as well.

People will say don't get a diesel at that millage because of the dpf, but we ran a blackline vrs for 3 years doing exactly the same millage and it was fine and I now have a new mk3 diesel VRS as well as a petrol and the diesel is better economy still. The Xenons were optional extras but you can retro fit HID's and you will get the Steering Controls if you go DSG. You can retro fit steering wheel with buttons even if you have manual but you would need it coding by someone with VCDS. I would get a Blackline it will have lots of extras already fitted as mentioned and just upgrade the Headlights.
