VCDS abilities

Featured Replies

Hi guys

This is something i know nothing about, and don't have the capability to do myself, so i'll need to pay someone to do it for me.

I want a few settings changed on the vRS, nothing mad - just things like the doors automatically locking and the wipers giving an extra sweep after spraying water from the jets. Below is a list of things i'd like to have programmed; can anyone tell me if they can all be done or not?

1. Doors lock automatically at 12mph, or whatever the standard speed is.

2. Give an extra wiper sweep a few seconds after the three sweeps have finished due to the washer jets being sprayed.

3. Fog light illumination with the indicators / steering input (like the newer models of Fabia, Ibiza, Golf etc.)

4. Follow me home lights, or whatever they're called. Basically when you unlock the car with the fob i'd like the lights to illuminate for a minute or so, and the same when turning the ignition off and heading out of the car.

I thought there was something else i would have liked it to do but can't think of what it was, maybe gauge sweep on start-up, but i don't think that's possible.

Suggestions on who can do this would also be appreciated.

Cheers

Kevin

All those things mentioned are possible with VCDS. Find someone nearby and they would be happy to help you!

3 and 4 is not possible on the mk1 Fabia with just VCDS.

No idea how you'd do 3 as you'd have to have some extra electronics which have access to the steering angle and indicator. I don't know if this is even possible on the mk1 Fabia. On the newer cars, all this data is available on the canbus.

4 can be done easily enough with a light sensitive switch.

Don't forget, on the mk1, the lighting isn't controlled by a computer like the newer cars, it's controlled by a physical switch.

Oh gosh sorry! just realised you have a Skoda Fabia 1, erm might be limited then, I only think the doors locking over 12mph is possible

3 is just not possible at all.

And as above 4 can be done with some custom wiring.

Number one is possible - I have it activated, although fairly sure it was standard as the previous owner was not the type to be fiddling with vcds.

I have heard of the tear drop wiper setting but only on the mk2 Fabia's.

The lighting setting you are thinking of are 'coming home' lights. Does the interior light not slowly fade when you turn the ignition off and take the key out? I'm trying to think which way mine does it, I think the interior light comes on when I take the key out, then dims out after about 30 seconds or so. Then it comes on again full when I open the door. Not sure if this can be altered however.

Just re read the initial post,

I now assume you meant the headlights coming on when unlocking / locking the car?

If so, then no I don't think that can be done on vcds!

1. Easy, can be done in a few minutes with VCDS.

2. I tried to find this, bit the option for it shows error and would not let me enable.

3. Not possible on Mk1 Fabia.

4. Not with VCDS, but can be done with a light sensitive switch, relay and wiring to the side lights and battery.

Thanks for the replies, good to know what can and can't be done without lods of work

Steering weight can also be adjusted with VCDS.

Didn't know that at all. Tbh, i can't say i have any complaints about the steering weight as it is.

I recently read the mk1 Fabia isn't canbus enabled, hence why i'm asking what can and can't be programed

You can also enable alarm "chirp" and one push opening via VCDS on the mk1 fabia.

Check the VCDS map for someone close to you, good guys in Brisky probably do it for some beer tokens.

Didn't know that either, and i never thought about the heated mirrors and screen either. I might have the mirrors adjusted as i like to have it in the middle position but never do as i don't want to burn them out.

How can i access the VCDS map to see who is close, got a link?

@ the OP - it REALLY is is worth buying VCDS. It's a proper investment for the future. Not only can you modify things but it's a fantastic diagnostic tool. And it works with every VAG car, even Bugattis.

Yes, it looks expensive in a world where most apps cost 99p but it's really a worthwhile investment. And there is not much you can say that about. And if you don't stay within the VAG family you can generally sell a cable for pretty much what you paid for it.

1) My doors auto lock at 10mph

2) This is always happend on mine, so its definitley possible

3) as said, just not going to happen

4) see above.

The thread below explains the steering weight settings. I upped mine from the mid setting (3) to 4 which gave a moderate increase in firmness.

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/205186-has-anyone-firmed-up-steering-using-

I dsabled auto lock on my 4 Skodas with that feature as I dislike the distracting loud clunk when it operates. If I want all 4 soors locked when on the move - eg when there are children in the car - then there is a button on the door rest which I can use. I also enabled one click unlock ao that passengers can get in the car at the same time as or before me. But this are very much personal preferences.

I also have the indicators flash on lock and unlock - which can help to find the car in a busy car park - and I have activated beep on lock so that I can lock the car while walking away from it and know that it is locked. The lack of a beep indicates that one of the doors isn't properly closed..

Ive always steered away ;) from altering the steering settings since the pumps are quite common for failing, im not sure if its a good or bad thing making it heavier/lighter. Would making the steering lighter mean the pump has to work more than usual to make it lighter and changing it to heavier mean the pump works less?

2) This is always happend on mine, so its definitley possible

.

You need to change the comfort controller module to get it. It's standard on facelift cars (so roughly August 2006 onwards).

Is it easy to use / learn how to work it properly? I plan on staying with the VAG group, my next car will be a mk6 Golf GTD if i ever sell the Fabia so it would be used for a good while.
