Bonnet lock seized

Featured Replies

I have tried opening bonnet from under the car and was unable to move lock mechanism. Can you release bonnet lock by removing bonnet radiator grill and removing the 2 lock bolts visible?

Had a similar issue a while back try getting someone to push down on the middle of the bonnet while you pull the lever in the cabin worked for me.

Thanks for suggestion but I have tried that I also sprayed some WD40 on lock to see if that would help no luck unfortunately

Can anyone please advise how to remove the bonnet lock through the front grill.  If I do this and disconnect wiring from alarm switch will the bonnet open up to safety catch or are there any other places that keeps the bonnet closed.

When you lift the bonnet release under the dash, does it do anything? My handle had worn and wouldn't release the bonnet due to it slipping. New handle fixed it.

if you look through the grill there is a piece of plastic that you can 'prize' away from the catch using a screwdriver which will pull the cable. You may want somebody to put a little bit of pressure on the bonnet as it is very stiff. This is what i had to do on my MkV Golf and I presume the Octavia is similar although access through the grill may not be as easy.

Another option is to have a look at the handle, my cable had become corroded and snapped the piece of the handle that held the crimp on the end of the wire so if you take the handle off you may be able to pull on it with a pair of pliers or mole grips. This worked for me for a while until it go so bad I had to resort to opening it via the grill for servicing and MOTs.

Eventually I bought a new cable, handle and lock mechanism

Hi thanks for both replies.

The bonnet release handle is ok but I found the bonnet cable detached from bonnet lock, I believe the cable became detached from lock because the lock is seized solid.

I also tried looking through grill but could not see the plastic mentioned above on my skoda.

Latest update on bonnet - car mechanic from my local garage agreed to try and open the bonnet but after 45 minutes he was unable to open the bonnet even with his special tools, he said I probably only had 2 options left 1. cut hole in bonnet around lock or 2. cut hole in grill and try to release seized lock this way, although he had never used either method because previously he had always managed to open the other car bonnets.

Piggybacking on this thread, has anyone found a decent guide on replacing the Bonne locks on a MK2 fl Octavia. I have the bonnet open but can't get the plastic trim away from the metal bar the lock ataches to.
