Paint protection - is it worth it?

In your opinion, is any additional paint protection for brilliant silver metallic paint worth its money? (I guess we're talking at least £500)

I will do around 8000 miles a year and intend to keep the car for 3-4 years.

I had LifeShine on my previous Octy MK2 (also brilliant silver metallic), didn't notice a huge difference.

Thinking that this colour is probably the most practical choice, would I be right to assume that it doesn't require as much protection as black or dark blue, for example?

That's not worth it, no.

You can get as good if not better from elsewhere at a lot lower cost.

Paint protection applied correctly, to a well prepared car - is most definitely worth it IMO.

 

To start with, i would ignore Lifeshine and get in touch with a local Professional Detailer.

Discuss the packages and options on offer and discuss ceramic coatings for best long term protection.

 

I do get your point that metallic silver does tend the "wear" very well; but the investment now will also be worth it in 3-4 years. :thumbup:

I don't know .... Looks at Gizmo's and it looks fantastic. Maybe cuts down the amount of graft you have to go ? I've never had it on any of my cars and they all still look brand new after 5 years...... I have to put in the graft although I do enjoy it ...

I wouldn't necessarily consider it an investment because options and paint protection doesn't add value to a car for part exchange.

Fair point - if you always part exchange; then the investment is perhaps lost here.

 

I tend to sell mine privately and see the benefit of the investment, in most cases at least.

Certainly do not get the dealer to do it!

 

I went for the Gtechniq Crystal Serum as the reviews are VERY impressive.

 

Does it make the car any easier to clean? no I can’t say it does, however it should help to stop any paintwork damage as it is such a hard coating.

I'd like to get mine detailed but a full monty with the Gtechniq Crystal system, glass and leather protection, alloys and calipers done is coming in at between £690-755! I'm thinking about stocking up on some Gyeon kit and spending my time doing it myself. I used to valet cars for a living years ago. The products have changed but the methods remain the same. My five year old Santa Fe looked like new when I sold it. Two bucket wash, clayed paint, glaze, Polish and HD wax.

It would be nice to have it done, but I can buy a lot of kit to keep it nice for that sort of money.

Think if mine wasn't on lease and giving it back in 3 years I would get it done professionally- but will probably just wax it regularly

After test driving my 4 year old Superb II for p/x "Wow, you've looked after it, got all the options and even kept the certificate for LifeShine. We'd normally ship a car this old to auction but this one we'll sell ourselves. We'll offer you £xxxxx".

Needless to say the offer was more than I expected. I guess it all depends on individual dealer attitudes.
