Time to change My Snow monster!

Featured Replies

Well it's getting near to the time to change my Yeti.

This was my 4th Skoda...i started with a Fabia, then to a Roomster ,yeti and now another Yeti...

So what do i get ?   I would ove another Yeti , but i think that the Yeti is getting well lets say a little old ( 7years old now to be replaced in 2018! )

Rumours are rife that the New Yeti will be the VW Tiguan with a Skoda front. Having seen the Tiguan, well no thanks..it looks like a car from 5 yrs ago..it looks old.

I fancied the new Kodiak, the Skoda dealer told me it would be out in May...now the Mighty VW as held it back till oct /Nov  do to the fact that Seat will have their NEW suv out ( made by Skoda !!)

So i looked at the new Renault....very nice, sturdy looking car

Kia Sportage.....great looking car, very well made and BIG....

Audi A3 ...another looking old car....

Hyundai Tuscon ...another big car , great finish....

Well i have decided to leave the Skoda Nest, and i am having a ......Kia Sportage Sport !

I would have loved another Yeti...but i cannot get round the front style....neither the all the same colour look..

Or the bad dealer reports I am hearing ( Lookers Bury New Road , Manchester )

So until Skoda starts to build stylish cars again....and not VW cars with Skoda fronts ..( New Roomster ..Yeti )

Goodbye Skoda...

Keep us up-to-date with your experience with the Sportage even via the Yeti 'alternative' threads.

I enjoyed the Sportage when I had one on a week's demo. Isn't it in the next size/price bracket up from Yeti?

Bet you can't get 5 pallets in the back!

Seriously, though, as much as I love my Yeti, I think the current model is ready for replacement - lots of new tech and the mqb platform will make the new one worth waiting for. 46,000 miles in two and a half years in comfort with reliability = happy former Fabia couple. Wife still calls it ugly!

If you want to carry pallets, the small ones you have above, then a VW Touran takes some beating. With the rear seats out I used to manage 12 or 13. I do miss the fact I never had to worry about "if it would fit in" with that car.

I also managed, not at the same time, a pallet truck with a 2500kg capacity and a small canoe.

My Son lives in South Korea, and only last night he tried to convince me to look at the new Sportage.

I had to point out (yet again) that the new Sportage is HUGE compared to The Yeti, and ticked none of my boxes.

The Seat Ateca Looks Good ,and bodes well for the Eventual mark 2 (small) Yeti.

A 187 bhp TDI manual ,or maybe An E-Tron? might do nicely. :smirk:

I like the new sportage and would consider a Honda asx but looking at lease deals in my situation I can get a higher spec Yeti for less and I still like the looks. I'd be very interested in how you find the kia compares.

Kalms, can you not get a Demo Kia for a long weekend.

Normally thats a good way to  tell if your going to like the car.

We had a Demo Yeti for 7 days.

If the Yeti was our only car I would have looked at something else.

But for what I wanted it for and what if offers/provides the existing Yeti is very good value for money.

Can't help but think the future Skoda and Seat replacements/alternatives will be somewhat more expensive especially as they are looking more like Audis and appear to be moving more upmarket.

Not sure that's what Skoda should be about?

Thanks guys, i really loved the Yeti...after all this is my second...But i think its getting on a bit now....Yes the Sprotage is a bigger car, so will the new Yeti be...but look at the price now of most Skoda's.....

Also VW is pulling in the belt straps for my likeing . Yes i have had a VW , it was not as reliable as you think....

Who knows when the next 3 yrs comes, i might even get the Kodiak .

Never forget the turning circle factor.......others become cumbersome in comparison.

The marketing dept call the uplift in pricing, desirability.

The brand has become desirable. I personally think Value for money trumps that and still does. The amount of kia and otehr brands that offer what Skoda did 5 or more years ago is on the rise. That is of course value for money, be it warranty or tin for cash ratios.

There will be a glut of SUV's on the market this coming year. I think I read Ford will be doing 4 new SUV models. That might be US only though... still they peculate through eventually.

Thank you Spaldi 01

If you look at the reason for a change...I am NOT slagging off the Yeti....I am saying after 7yrs in production and no new model out till 2018 and then a rebadged Tiguan..

I want some thing that is more modern looking...The Sportage comes with sat nav, heated seats front and rear, heated steering wheel  , phone charging pad for your phone....etc

etc...

If Skoda released its new Kodiak before July then perhaps i might consider it....but sorry Skoda is now getting expensive, and shall we say dragging its feet...and as for my dealer....Lookers!! dont get me on that!

Where does that idea come from?

What idea??

The one I emboldened in the quoted post of yours.

To help "and then a rebadged Tiguan.."

  • Author

Having spoke to a local dealer, i was asking about the Kodiak, then talk turned to the new Yeti...his quote...it looks like a Tiguan with the Skoda front!

Lets be honest about all this...We all bought the original Yeti because it was so differant looking....it looks made it stand out....YES its a great car, but then Skoda messed with it and blessed it with the "new" Skoda front.....which is not a great success..

I am on my 2nd Yeti...Its not like the first...no paint under bonnet, it has had 3 Skoda badges due to the white worm ( its still as the white worm ) the dashboard as started to creak ( 20,000mls)

My heated seat does not work...( told by the dealer its a well known fault)

Well so to the future of Skoda....The Superb looks great, but park one next to the Octavia....apart from the body crease...they do look alike

New Skoda Fabia...a good car but look at the style ( Or lack off!)  it will not stand the test of time..

New Skoda Roomster..a VW van with a Skoda front  ( Lazy! )

New Skoda Kodiak  looks a lot like the new Ford Edge.....

Then we have the prices ...Skoda were famous for their low prices...what happened?

As i started to say in my original forum....I want a car that Looks different...NOT where all the range looks the same ( Audi , VW ) at least Seat as a sense of style...

When Skoda ( VW ) starts to listen to us, the customer as to what we want...and bring out cars that are different as the original Yeti....then i Will buy another Skoda

So yes i have made a decision ...i am having a Kia Sportage GT......

So thank you to all my Briskoda friends for all your support.

...but isn't the Sportage big and expensive....and look like all the others as well ?

I said in a post a few months back that VAG and all other brands are making euro boxes, when it is time for a new design, whichever model comes out 1st with it, then the rest of the model range follows.

Before i bought the Yeti, i would have liked to replace my Octy with the MkIII, with the ltd number of engines, price hike & size increase, it turned my tick boxes into crosses, and checking out the other models the ltd engines & the price hikes had me shaking my head. If it hadnt been for the fact we had 2 cars just on 3 yrs old to trade in we would not have bought the Yeti & would have gone elsewhere.

We all have boxes to tick and i hope you enjoy your new car,

I personally will not be looking at buying any of the current new cars, specially with Hybrid starting to seep into the brands, these are false economy specially the quoted MPG, and from 2017 these will be £140 VED

Current all electric still have that 'Range Anxiety' tag, get these up to 250+ mile range ( as Elon Musk says  with working aircon) and i would consider, fuel cell would be my only other consideration. Looks like I will never own either of these due to cost initially & by the time the become " affordable" to mass market they will be un affordable for me.

yep the Sportage is bigger than the yeti....you think the new Yeti will be the same size as the old one...mmmm dont think so

Expensive you say....add all the options to the Yeti..and oops its more expensize...i have checked everything out...

Also the Skoda dealer i use is utter crap!.....willing to sell, but **** at after care...

As i started out on this forum, my subject changing my snow monster...as i said...yes i can have a new Yeti..but remember the monster is 7yrs old...to be replaced in 2018...just look at the competition...its all moved on..and its time for me to move on...

note, i have looked at the new Tiguan.....yuk styling!

New Seat suv..nice ( built by Skoda )  but why a 1.0 litre engine?!!  the 1.2 in the Yeti great engine but a greedy little devil in the petrol dept !

yep i know they do diesal ...but after the sham with VW...( my neighbour has been contacted....to be fixed in May!!...no comp, nothing! )

To sum up....Yeti fantastic car, but looking old now....so its my choice to move on....

I must admit that one of my attractions to Skoda is my fantastic Dealer.

As for the new Tiguan, bland and anonymous are understatements.(quick edit: and too big for me.)

Good luck with your new Kia...Let us know how you get on.

Glad I bought my first Yeti recently. I like the look of the facelift and it will do me fine for the next three years.

After that who knows? Not adverse to hybrid for this type of vehicle and my use of it (I'm keeping my petrol sports car!) as long as it is affordable as regards buying and running.
