Fitting a turbo back milltek tomorrow

Featured Replies

So I'm fitting a turbo back as stated in the title.

Been told to give the car a good thrash before I do because otherwise the bolts have more chance of stripping thread??

Also been told to make sure I don't snap the fixed bolt things on the turbo, how delegate can they be?

Got some free all spray and some exhaust paste... Take some lube to help with rubbers but can't think of anything else.

Any advice/experience with the bolting exhaust on turbo, never looked or seen under there.

Three nuts on the turbo outlet. Good idea to have new ones. Easier to pop the air box out and get them from above the gearbox with a long extension IMHO. At least one will probably pull the stud out of the turbo.

Alright probably so that then.

What's so you mean pull a stud out of a turbo?

Where do I buy new bolts from? Never bought any lol.

It's nuts you need. Skoda will stock them, copper lock nuts.

There is a stud in the turbo. The downpipe fits over the stud and is retained by a nut. Normally what happens is the stud comes out of the turbo rather than the nut off the stud.

Try foreplay... :D

That's what I thought it would be looking at this downpipe, what could I even do if one didn't snap??!

Drill it out and put a new stud in.

Drill it out and put a new stud in.

My god I hope not

Forgive me if Im confused here, but I've done such similar things on my bike so thats the experience I'm drawing from, but sounds very similar.

Surely the only time you would need to drill anything is if the STUD stays stuck in place, if it comes out normally then you just put a new stud in surely no drilling required !!

If you have a stud and nut stuck together, you throw it away and use a new stud and nut, surely..........

He asked what would happen if one snapped.

That explains it, I read what he said and interpreted it exactly as he posted it, he said DIDN'T snap lol

"what could I even do if one didn't snap??!"

But yes, if one DID snap, you would be in a world of fun ! If the stud and nut come out together, no problem at all though, just replace them ?

Yeah I misread that, good shout. But yeah if it didn't snap just reuse or replace the stud.

Ah makes sense now lol.

Can't be worse than a Triumph triple exhaust stud snapping in the head. Now that is a pain in the arse.

You assumed right anyhow, that was my phone auto correcting things as usual.

Hope to be doing it tomorrow, I'll warm the turbo up and spray a lot of 'free all' and hope it all goes nicely!

Adding the torque evenly directly/precisely applying increased pressure, and also steadily and can't imagine anything will snap.

I find things snap when I'm a numpty and cack handed and try to do stuff I shouldn't, corner cutting, rushing etc. I can't imagine good mechanics hardly ever snap anything unless they are really rotten and even then they will kind of know and already be thinking ahead of what to do to remove it easily.

So just go steady I'm sure it will be fine !

I've done plenty now and as it happens only ever snapped them on my own turbo.

I was lucky enough to have the smooth stop part of the bolt sticking out so managed to get it out with mole grips!

I wouldn't worry to much about taking it for a really long drive. You'll probably just end up burning your arm/fingers/wrist.

They came off an absolute treat, lol.

As for the system it's not very loud, slightly dissapointed. Also looks to be hanging 20-25 from the bumper where I've seen some peoples and it's tight to the bumper, I want mine tight.

I've seen people have bent their rear hangar down to in turn bring the backbox up, is that what I'm going to have to do?

Its not particularly loud. But then did to the turbo and being a diesel even with no silencers they aren't ridiculously loud.

Should sit nice and tight into the bumper.

I've seen videos of piper cat backs and they sound louder, could be the video but I don't know.

Here's a screenshot of a video I took, can you see it looks like it's hanging a bit?

It's not surprising they are quiet really, the back box is fookin massive!

Even with 2.5bar of boost and a 2260 mine with a 4 diameter box is still pretty quiet.

I had to alter the brackets slightly and found the further you push the backbox into the centre section the closer it sits to the bumper.

Mine sits almost perfect with a very small 2mm around the edge so happy enough.

I can see why you would se disappointed with the noise. It's nothing very loud, just nice when you put your foot down abit.

I've had a straight through piper previously but don't think it would suit the SE. Almost everyone on the forum with a Fabia SE has the milltek system now, just looks so good :D

I've had my full milltek fitted since January and still puts a smile on my face everytime on full boost.

If it was on all the time I probably would have got bored with it by now.

Would ideally like it to be a bit deeper but thats a balance without having a constant drone.

The piper straight through is a lot louder and the first time I heard one start I was like WOAH!

But so far I'm happy with it.

Was more of a sound with my cat and a hole in my back box, get a bit of a coo when I slowly take it to 2k then change gear or let off.
