Faults in my vcds scan

I've done a scan today and it came up with a few faults, so I cleared them and scanned again but they are still there.

In the past I fitted a reverse camera, which is working fine, and swapped my "A" Bluetooth module for a "D" version, which also works fine, so I'm guessing I need to code this new module. How do I do that? Are all the faults connected?

Appears to be a coding issue with the BT, long code looks a bit sparse. You might have mic diagnostics active or the three button key pad active ticked to have that first fault.

Then on the other it sounds like the back up camera is ticked in the gateway but something with the radio coding isn't consistent. There are low line and high line cameras and you might have chosen the wrong one in the radio coding? That's where I'd be looking first.

Thanks Adam. I'll have a look today. I know about the cameras but being a complete novice with vcds and initially struggling to get the camera working I'm a bit wary of going in a bit blind.

With regard to the Bluetooth module is it simply a case of finding someone with the same module and copying the code.

Are mic settings and 3 button keypad in settings? I've never heard of a 3 button keypad so I doubt I'd have played around with that but I'll check it out.

Which camera did you install? If it's not a high line version you should open the installation list in the gateway, look for 6C and untick it.

9458193 - Control Module for Cellular Telephone

I would check byte 6 and change it from 00 to 01 (3-button active to inactive) - assuming my memory is correct

13636352 - Control module not coded

When you make the change to byte 6 above, fill in the importer number, workshop code etc. Any non zero values should do.

When you're done, clear all the DTC's and see which come back!

Many thanks for that.

I check the bulb every time I use the car,even looking for a reflection in the car in front when stopped in traffic and it seems ok. But I do have a spare so il swap it just in case.

It's not a highline camera so I'll have a look at that.

I'll see if I can find byte 6,like I said I'm a novice at vcds .

With regard to importer number and workshop code, so I can just invent a number without zeros.

They can have zero's in them but not be zero

It makes very little difference as long as it's not 00000/000/00000. VCDS will offer to set it to their default which is 12345/123/12345.

In cases where a replacement has been made, I tend to use the values from the old unit to make comparisons easier.

If you access module 77 and then the coding it will take you to a screen where you can change the coding via the long code helper. This is where you find the bytes etc and I thought it was byte 6 too. It's pretty self explanatory and the three button keypad is a vw roof control pad so won't be relevant to your car.

It's better to use the long coding helper than manually amending the coding and copying someone else's, where the car may have different functions, won't necessarily solve things. Having said that the BT module is more likely than most to be consistent across cars.

I had a play today and found byte 6c in the gateway but it was already unticked.

I found byte 6 and on the same page there was a tick box option that mentioned a 3 button keypad which when ticked changed byte 6 to 01. Going back to the previous page I tried to alter the importer number and workshop code but it wouldn't allow any change at all even the vcds default value.

I took some screenshots but it was a pain trying to upload them using my tablet. I'll try tomorrow on my PC.

Thanks Adam. I don't know if I was doing things the way you've suggested but I'll try again tomorrow.

As you can probably gather I don't really understand how to use vcds and when I do use it I need word for word instructions otherwise I'm just guessing.

I finally manged to get round to having another attempt at this and I was accessing module 77 as you suggested Adam and trying to change things as Langers had previously suggested. I still can`t change the importer number and workshop code. I`ve loaded up some screenshots to show whats happening.

I go to module 77 and long code helper and get this

I put a tick in the box "Operating unit for cell phone operation" which changes byte 6 to 01

Choose exit and it takes me back to this screen

Click Do It. I then get this

And no matter which option I choose I then get this

I`m obviously doing something wrong but I just can`t work out what.

On the previous screen, rather than clicking exit, try hitting the X in the top right. Hopefully that'll fill out the 'New coding' section for you

Excellent!

The RNS510 looks correctly coded and the camera issues are all from about 4000km ago which might have been when it was fitted.

Probably worth clearing all DTC's and posting a new autoscan to see if the backup camera errors return.

Thanks for that. I`ve cleared the DTC`s a few times in the past and re-scanned but the camera fault keeps reappearing, yes it`s probably about 4000km ago that I fitted it. The new scan today is the same as the one above but without the bluetooth errors. I haven`t got round to trying a new bulb in the DRL.

The RNS510 is the original factory fitted as far as I know. I was tempted by a recent DAB unit in the Classified section but I don`t have the code for it to sell on

As langers2k mentioned this feels like a high line camera with separate module is expected. Are you sure 6c isn't ticked in the gateway list?

I`ve had another look at 6C and its definitely unticked.

I cleared the DTC`s and rescanned and the faults still show. I don`t suppose its a big issue as everything is working as it should, even the LED DRL. I haven`t got round to changing the bulb yet

Not sure if you mean 37 Navigation (couldn`t find 57) but if so I couldn`t see anything

In 56 Radio though there was a tick box in long coding for "Backup Camera Low (without control module) installed" and this was ticked

Also in the same 56 Radio there was for Byte 7, Bit 4-5 a drop down box which was showing "00-Display Variant:Highline". There were two other options, one was Premium (instead of Highline) but I can`t remember the other option, could have been Standard. I`ll have to check again, but I`m not sure if this relevant.

Once again I`m having trouble uploading screenshots on my Acer Aspire One nettop that I use for VCDS.

Ah right. I've just spotted my deliberate mistake. Thanks for taking the time with this, I'll have another look tomorrow. If nothing else I'm finding my way around vcds a bit more.

Apologies for not coming back to this but we had a bit of a crisis at home and then decided to go on a holiday.

I finally got round to changing the LED light bulb which was causing a problem in my first scan. I then cleared all faults and rescanned and as far as I can see the RVC faults and bulb fault has been cleared some how but another fault has been discovered.

The scan log is below.

Does anybody know what "Intervention Load Management" is?

**EDIT** Just had a quick look at the Ross-Tech wiki and it seems it is simply informing me that the battery is a bit discharged and needs charging up. I thought the "Load" bit was something to do with having too much weight in the car doh.

I don`t know why the RVC faults have suddenly disappeared, surely they weren`t linked to the faulty bulb.

If that's your plan then go for it. It's a very simple and painless process from past experience but admittedly that was some time ago now since I last ran Linux. I have a 2017 Asus X555 (I think it is) that's now redundant but serviceable I was thinking of wiping the SSD and installing Linux on. Might be worthy of a topic in the Tech Shed for more input. Neigbour with a Fabia Mk4 called me recently, his drivers door and the rear (right) passenger doors were partly open with what looked like a stainless steel rod jamming the two doors in their partly open/closed positions, to make a long story short, it was the door umbrella that apparently had shot out somehow or other and jammed the two doors, he had partially opened the back door to let his dog out I think and had let his own door partially open, or something like that. One of the things I miss in my TDi vRS Mk 3 is the CD player in the boot that I had in the much-missed Mk 2. Has anyone had any experience of a separate CD player in the car playing back through the "Media" part of the infotainment system? I do have music in my Galaxy A26 phone but I can't seem to get it to play albums in the car, it will only play one single track at a time.

Hi, so I've bought a superb from 2012 that has the Bolero radio unit, it works fine but the Bluetooth has been very annoying with the way it functions. The main problem is that when I start the car and my phone connects to BT and I play music, the radio doesn't show song information and touch controls on the screen don't "activate". Now the frustrating part is that if I then disconnect my phone and reconnect it everything works as intended, i can change songs and it shows what song is playing.

Hi. I know there's a 'considering buying' forum but this is about an oldie so I thought this may be a better place to post...(a query for the long committed fans?)? I already have a 2005 Octavia Estate (1.9TDI PD105) and it is by a country mile the BEST car I have EVER owned. I bought it in 2013 for <£2.5k and apart from needing to do the clutch straight away it hasn't needed much over the 80k miles I've done in it since.
