did your 1.4 140ps tsi get noisier and harsher by time?

Featured Replies

I don't know why but i feel my engine is not as smooth and refined as before

My car done 61000km now and the dealer changed the spark plugs and air filter with oil and oil filter at 60000 service but i still feel the engine not as it was before

Specially on higher revs and if i hold the rpm on 5k it screams very loudly

Does anyone noticed this?

I have so far found the opposite - it is getting better with time, though admittedly has not yet reached 7K

But so far as revs are concerned, I have never found any reason to go anywhere near 5K. It seems to like being changed up at less than 4K and even then it is flying.

Only 21k km on mine, but no deterioration so far.

Like EDNMRA I tend to drive in the torque rich zones below 4k rpm where the engine is more efficient anything over is just more noise and more fuel consumed.

It a very small turbo fitted and it cannot keep up with volumes required at high revs.

I presume you have noticed a deterioration since new and not since the last service? What does your mechanic say when he test drives it?

Does the engine just seem louder? Or is there more vibration, or rough running? Could be lots of things. Mine is at 25k and if anything I'm finding the opposite true. My car seems to make (slightly) more noise at idle when cool, but returns to normal after a minute.

Am comparing it since new not since the last service

Frankly i did not mention this to my dealer am sure he will tell me everything is normal:)

I think its louder and a little bit more rough at the end of the rpm range

They all get a bit noisier with miles, particularly as they break in. V noticeable with the TDI's...fine in normal running but the idle tends to get rougher/noisier a little bit with age and mileage.

Did they put the right oil in it?

I haven't noticed anything. I am at 58.000km and redline it almost daily :)

I cannot remember all your posts BUT: You redline it most days, regularly tow a caravan, have taken it to over 215 kph on the autobahn and emptied the tank enough to take over 55 litres.

Well I think that answers any questions about reliability of small turbo engines... and sir, I doff my cap to you in respect.

Relining a 1.4 TSI ain't an issue but, there's no performance increase left over 4,300 revs although it can be fun.

To be honest: the car is a company car that has to be replaced every 3 years, so I am not so concerned about long term reliability nor fuel consumption as I have free fuel (My long term mpg is 40ish). I don't redline it until the engine is warmed up, though :) I did receive the car a few days before summer vacation, so it had a 100km break-in time before towing

I have had it  almost 20 months now - with the current lead times on Octavia and Superb I have to consider ordering a new one "soon"  :notme:

This is my first Skoda and so far it has been faultless, so unless they run some special offers on the equivalent Audi or VW I will most certainly order a new Skoda 1.4 TSI when replacement is due.

Due to Danish prices - purchase, road tax and fuel - the breakeven point for petrol vs diesel is at least 25k miles per year (at least for VAG cars).

edit: Typo

Yes, I heard some time ago you had to do 25K to 30K miles a year to justify diesel prices.

Did they put the right oil in it?

They use shell helix ultra fully synthetic oil

If the car was fine before have dealer service & now makes noise then dealer did something wrong, or used wrong parts. these engines should get smoother & only sound noisy if cold.
