First casualty

Featured Replies

Well our monte Carlo is the first casualty of the diesel gate fiasco !, our son has decided his gorgeous black monte Carlo is going to be sold and replaced, he is about to purchase a new ford fiesta st , which he is trilled about but we are not! 180 something bhp and he's not 22 yet, however he said with all issues relating to the diesel vw cheat and hassle with dpf, hope it's not out of the frying pan

That is not a victim of diesel gate, just a young person moving on up the performance ladder.

?

Is the Ford Dealership giving a good trade in on the Monte, or is it going privately?

If he is losing more than is normal then that is maybe the poor reputation the 1.6 TDI CR Euro 5 engine has been getting.

A reputation that is been built up on the internet etc where Skoda / VW / Seat / Audi have not really helped.

?

When is the Fix supposed to start on the 1.6TDI CR Euro 5 VW Engines?

With logic and justification like that, I can see that your son has a bright future in either Politics or Advertising.

Before buying his tractor, had his detailed research not warned him about the DPF problems?

He's just using that (dieselgate) as an excuse lol.

I would too!

Heck I'm using it as an excuse with my misses to swap the 320d! :D

I got my first VRS at 21 and I'm still here. If he's sensible with it, he'll be alright I'm sure.

At least the ST has a cracking chassis so there shouldn't be too many unexpected moments when pushing on. (within the speed limits of course)

Lets be honest,

even if he takes a bend at 80 mph in the Fiesta ST no matter how better the chassis is than on the Monte Carlo,

the difference of staying on the road or losing it is likely to be which tyres are on which cars and if he meets someone with a good or not so good chassis coming towards him on his side of the road.

Maybe a spirited tail out type driver.

No he's had enough of diesel, been offered £7,000 for the monte so think that's fair for a 62 plate, he's a nearly qualified mechanic so understands the issues, I am very scared of the jump from 105bhp to nearly 190 bhp but hopefully he's intelligent enough not to drop it in the corner , he does get told off when he's in the wrong by both his parents

It will not be staying standard will it,?

so Mountune and 200 bhp plus!

A large margin of hte people buying Fiesta STs are low 20s.

You might not be thrilled about the idea, but he is one of thousands doing exactly the same thing.

If you've managed to get some sense into him, he'll be fine.

At least he'll be having more fun, if he can put up with the firm low speed ride.

20yr ago he'd be buying a 205 GTI 1.9.

Better in the Fiesta :peek:

If he managed to persuade you so easily with that logic, I have some PPI you can buy!

I was thinking the same. :D

Is there a Insurance Company out there quoting a not yet 22 Year Old Apprentice Mechanic happy for a Fiesta ST?

he will  want to probably tune it,however we will not allow this,we will help with the purchase but he will pay us back, rather that than finance and I don't require ppi mortgage is already paid,he is a good lad so he does understand that if he drives like a **** we will take the car off him and sell it,everything we do has consequences (sorry for spelling) so if hes caught doing wrong he will pay,im a little worried about the power difference ,however if he is driving within the law most of the time we should be fine,he is in the best place to get a good deal so he will not be ripped off by the dealer, he is a petrol head so I need to make sure he does the right thing,he is at the moment getting a focus 1.6 ready for road racing,so hopefully this will get his speed on the track rather than on the roads

So you've agreed the sale but not checked the insurance on a person or his (my(ish)) age? Big mistake if you ask me.

there are issues he has seen on fords with dpf and the mastertechs talking to him on how the diesel passenger vehicles are now being strangled by regulations and killing people with their fumes

no sale has not been agreed, however any insurance is available if you've got he greenbacks :peek: ,its all up in the air until he finds a good one with a few years on the warranty still, again im soft not stupid :x

Getting an offer of £7,000 on a 62 Plate 1.6TDI CR Monte Carlo is pretty good, or someone desperate to sell a Fiesta ST,

you can buy newer ones from a Car Dealer for less than that.

I wouldnt get too worried, the extra bit of power isnt going to launch him into a field instantly, if he has his head screwed on and takes it easy to start with he'll be fine.

He a mechanic at a fords so getting a good deal can get st2 or 3 new for a good price , however a good pre owned one will be better so waiting game until he gets a good'n

There was nearly an earlier one, until I managed to explain to dad that it doesn't effect a 2000 Fabia SDI in any way, shape or form :wall:

, if he can put up with the firm low speed ride.

My low 20s nephew sold his as it wasn't a pleasant ride on Fenland back roads.

I put decent coilovers on mine.

Problem sorted.
