Featured Replies

I have got an SDcard stuck in the CD drive slot and wanted to try and get it out.

Dare I ask how ?

I'm gonna guess kids... Managed to remove half a cd (yes half) and a couple of 2 euro coins from the unit in a mk5 golf a few years back [emoji2]

At the risk of pointing out the bleeding obvious, you know it's push to latch, push to unlatch, don't you?

It looks like someone put an SD card in the CD drive though.

Ah, serves me right for not reading the question properly!

Thanks for your replies guys !

The story goes like this :

I wanted to update the maps on my Octavia - so borrowed a friend's SDCard as I only had 16GB ones.

At the end of the day, it was dark and scary when I thought I will go and update the maps.

My first attempt did not work correctly and I thought I will remove and reinsert the card to try again.

Don't know how - I tried to insert the SD card into the slot but by mistake I put it in CD drive slot.

Realizing that I had made a mistake, and a little bit of SD card still hanging out - I tried to take it out.

Was too lazy to go back into house and get some tweezers - I used my fingers which ultimately pushed it completely inside the CD drive slot.

Its a new car so my wife won't allow me to take the cd drive unit out.

But maybe after 3 years when I go to a local garage for MOT - I might get the card back :)

(It was a 128GB Lexar 1000x SD card - worth £50)   :(

Bought a new one and returned it to my friend   :(

Lessons to learn :

1. Always use proper tools.

2. If anything goes wrong give it 5 mins (relax and think about what to do next rather than rushing)

Also, you can't update the maps on a random SD card, you have to use the OEM SD card supplied with the car, dont forget to do a backup first though!

Managed to update the Maps to 2016 finally !

It took about 1 hour to run the updates in Columbus.

Hi Matt Pez,

My car came with no SD card for navigation. I think its all on Columbus hdd.

So, I just took any random SD card larger than 22Gb and could run updates.
