dvd jumpy picture / progressive scan?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Would anyone know why my Denon 2900 is a little jumpy, not exactly jumping as in missing frames but the picture is not as smooth as I would expect it to be.

Could it be because i'm watching import dvd's and could things improve if I use componant leads and progressive scan mode what ever that is?

My player is multi region and i'm using an s-video cable to my LG LCD.

You would think a top end player would give you silky smooth movement. :(

Basically, progressive scan increases the amount of times the screen is refreshed every second by about 50% (not as straight forward as that, but thats the idea) so in theory you get a smoother image. That said, I wouldn't expect the 2900 to be giving out a bad image.

The leads wouldn't really alter the "smoothness" of the image, more just enhance the clarity or an existing SCART/co-ax picture.

My DVD player doesn't output R1 DVD's as nice as I'd expect them to, despite being multiregion. Are UK DVD's just the same?

Thanks for the info, i've had another look at some uk dvd's and no they don't have the same jerky movement so I guess it's something to do with the way the player handles R1 dvd's. :thumbdwn:

As an experiment I turned off Progressive scan mode and put it into Interlace and it makes no difference but if i'm right in thinking it wouldnt have anyway as i'm using s-video and progressive scan is only for componant connections, or perhaps i've got that wrong too. :)

I will have to do some fishing around on home cinema message boards and see if there are some other menu options I can try.
