Condensation

Featured Replies

Wife's car (vrs) windscreen is always soaked after being parked up, doesn't seem to be leaking in or anything

Inside was frozen as much as the outside yesterday morning when I used it and she says it's always like that

Anyone else with this or has had it and fixed the problem

Cheers

Had it plenty, always when the rear doors have been leaking though.

Yes, got a 2007 vRS SE, 33,000 miles.

Had the usual leaky rear door seals done by the dealer. Its initially very misty when starting up when cold, then just about clears during my 5 mile journey to work around 7AM. When I come out of work around 6PM, just the front windscreen has condensation on the inside.I drive back home and it clears and the cycle starts again the following morning.

If I go one a 100 mile drive and leave it overnight its OK. It just seems on the shorter trips. Air Con heating and cooling are OK. Gas pressure is OK and changed the cabin filter recently. Overall the dehumidifier seems lacking.

Tried some of the small space dehumidifier bags from eBay and it seems a bit better.

Otherwise puzzled!

Cheers.

Once you can't find anything else to check do what I do and get more and more and more annoyed, threaten to sell it! Then something amazing happens and it's summer :sun:  and all is well for a while and you decide this car is epic  . Then the cycle begins again! :(

No truer words have ever been spoken.

My money's on rear door seals.

+1.

If they've never been fixed (well) the rear door carrier seals are almost certainly a major part of the issue.  After rain, check for teeny puddles on the seal at the bottom of the door opening to confirm.

Wind deflectors have stopped mine ever steaming up

With the bonnet up, check behind the engine, on the driver's side. There is a blind spot which can be reached by hand. It's a water drain hole in the firewall. I am not sure if the vRS is the same, it should be, I do have an mpi version. That hole has a rubber thing which usually gets blocked by dirt and leaves, not allowing the water to drain. It's an easy job. Get a rubber glove just in case. After cleaning it for a a few times, the rubber thing finally got in somehow and never had a problem since. I will take a picture and upload it later.

Apart from the usual leaky doors etc, I've found setting the fans differently makes a big difference.

Since I started turning the blower to between the floor and dashboard vent setting and 3 for fan speed and A/C on for the last 10mins of each journey, I've found I barely ever get condensation on the windscreen, so long as I turn it completely to the floor when parked up. It also helps to make sure the inside of the windows are as clean as can be.

When they're left pointed at the windscreen, moisture in the ventilation system seems to collect on the windscreen, also setting it this way helps to dry out the carpets/footwells when its parked up.

I did used to keep dehumidifier packs in the car, but I haven't needed to since changing my habits with the fan settings. Opening the windows a touch when demisting the windows seems to clear any condensation much faster too.

It might not make as much difference for you, but it may be worth a try, all the same.

A few things to look at and try.

Thanks
