Designer's brain fart ?

Is it me or is this a design and styling abortion ?

The over-complicated front-end, the hat-doffing to the enclosed Citroen type rear wheel and the pseudo '70's fast back look, ultimately compromised by the back-end shut lines which emulate a hatch back. And as to the interior, unimaginative and insufficient radical comes to mind, especially for the first off the line of vehicles with a new source of motive power.

IMHO, some European design and styling help needed.

Who, apart from an aesthetically challenged chimp, is going to layout £60,000 for this when there are so many better styled European cars available at that price range ?

Perhaps you're looking at something different Nick?

I see no enclosed rear wheel, nor complicated front end?

Urgh that's ugly!

Mind I've noticed that about Japanese and Korean cars of late. In order to overcome the dullness they appear to be trying to make their cars look "different" and simply management to make them vile (Nissan joke for example).

These latter pix, I agree with Nick, over-fussy, harks back to the rear-engined V8 Tatras, kind of tear-drop shape. Trying to cram in too many design elements.

Richard

There both ugly. Proportions and lines all wrong.

Eeeewwwww!!!!!

If this is the same car I saw the UK prototype of yesterday (dressed up in the usual wrap) up close and personal, the above images do not do it justice and doesn't look as out of proportion as the above illustrates. It looked alright to me. (As best as I could tell)

The one I had my hands on had a 3-pot 1.5 petrol engine, but had an extra big fuel filler door to accommodate the electrical charge power point (whatever the technical name for it is :p )

Bingo, nasty stuff.

Could be good for a Breaking Bad reboot in 20yr

It is the FCV I was looking at.

In these photos,  which were taken from the quarter position i.e. At 45 degrees to either the front or rear end,  it looks hideous,

And the interior, no radical thought applied.

IMHO, its a forcing together of disparate design themes from top to toe, semi-gangster front end, 1970s Rover saloon tear drop and fast back + emulated Volvo hatch design and nodding acknowledgement ti Citroen hydraulics over the rear wheel arch.

Same sort design confusion that manifested in some of the Civics and Corrollas - manfacturers couldn't decide whether they were producing an OAP's runabout or a hot hatch for the kids.

I'm reminded of those old propeller aircraft that were retro-fitted as test-beds with the newly emerging gas turbines - sames going on here.

Should sell well..".......in the states.

....oh and there's going to be a Type-R version of this :D

That seem's an awful lot of rear overhang to drag around corners, especially in wet weather??

Its not for normal people is it. Not even for normal £60000 car buyers. Not with Hydrogen fuel cell power.

It's a futuristic technology demonstrator so it has to look obviously different to stop Auto Express comparing it with a similar looking diesel or hybrid cars - and then telling the public its cr4p in comparison.

The BMW i3 and i8 are similarly awful to look at for the same reason.

To be honest the hybrid Honda and Toyota family cars are already fugly - this just takes Prius/ Insight sedan look to the next awful level.

It looks different, which is good, but looks ****e, which is bad.

I still dont get why so many designers sem ti think hybrids or electric cars need to look like something out of Tron?? Make them look more day to day "normal" will easily increase sales like a golf GTE..

Probably think they can get some ecoloony celeb to buy one to drive the sales.

TBH these are loss leaders and just a learning exercise to prove the technology. But I don't understand why they need to be so steekin ugly.

The Nissan Leaf does ok and it's oh so bland. But then it's actually usable for some people.
