MK 1 Vrs Octavia Electrical problem

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Do any of you guys know where this black cable leads to,because its getting hot when the engine is running i can only keep my finger on it for 5 seconds, car runs like a bag of spanners,ABS,ASR, AIRBAG,coming on, test meter reading 7.5-8.5 volts across bat terminals, turn ignition off car fails to even turn over.

Cheers.

  • runs from battery to alternator, very common issue, most likely starting to melt the box on top of battery too, get it sorted asap as from experience itcauses charging and running issues

The crimp connection at the battery end of the cable goes high resistance due to corrosion. Need to replace the cable with a new one as the corrosion will have extended part way down the cable. As said above, replace it soon or you will melt the plastic of the fuse box.

As the alternator charge current is being limited by the cable, try to keep the electrical load as small as possible to avoid low battery volts and all kinds of warning signs etc.

Doh... i replied to the double post version :D
