Automatic Boot Opening Springs

How do you remove the cap at the end of the boot strut so that you can slide the springs down the strut?

They unscrew. You need to hold the shaft close to where it unscrews so it doesn't damage the seal.

I used a rag to cover the strut then used a locking pliers to hold it from spinning, thank god didn't damage or even mark it, the first time undoing the top was tight.

As the strut doesn't close fully (or you wouldn't have room for the spring!) You can grab the very top o the strut with a pair of pliers without having to worry about it, grip it tight and then un-screw the top and it will come off.
