Best Options on a vRS

Featured Replies

I am hoping to do a deal next week which will see me trade in my 2012 Octavia MK2 vRS TDi for a new or nearly new MK3 vRS Petrol.

I was hoping to get the opinions of some of the good folks here as to what you think the best options are to have on a new vRS? Or an MK3 Octavia for that matter!!

I am also still undecided on the colour. I like the Race Blue, but also love the Moon White.... hmmmmmmm!!!

Thanks

Paul

Have a look on broadspeed.com at the sort of discount you should be able to get with 0% finance.

Options are mainly subjective. What you like, and what you think is good value the next person may not. However, for what it's worth I'd definitely go for the spare wheel, and the sunset glass is a fairly inexpensive option that enhances the looks no end. They should both really be standard, and not including them as such is just penny pinching by Skoda. I'm not sure I'd go for the rear camera again though. It's quite expensive for what it is and in poor weather the view is often obscured as the lens is constantly exposed.

Generally speaking, I'd avoid most extras though as the majority will add very little to your resale value.

As above.....best for what reason?

Best for you......only you can answer that.

Best for resale......as few as possible as you won't get anything back come resale.

I went for

Folding mirrors (when locked) - a must for me

Sunset glass - I like the look

Leather seats - wanted heated seats and again I like the look

Heated windscreen (winter pack) - no more scrapping on cold mornings :)

Black design - like the look

smart link - cool gadget

Kessy - another cool gadget and will be very handy for me

I think all of the above should come as standard on the VRS apart from the leather seats.

I would of liked the sun roof but it cost to much.

I went for the quartz grey but really like the meteor grey when I saw it in real life.

Sunroof is the one option I wanted but couldn't justify the mega cost

You don't fit extras to get a return on your investment. You do it because you don't want your new purchase to be a compromise on what you want. To sacrifice the extras you want because you wouldn't get the money back is pointless, in fact of getting money back is your aim I suggest buying something that doesn't depreciate quite as fast as a car, like a piano or a vase.

As for extras, all I fancied were heated seats (these are a deal breaker these days for me with a recurring back problem and living in cumbria!), electric mirrors (it's not the 90's) and the spare wheel (I'm not risking the difference between getting home or not on a small can of stuff). Nothing else really interested me but I could see why some would want some of them!

What is the price for the options in UK?

Same pricelevel as in Norway. We have some high taxes on top.

Some extras in UK are standard here. Strange.

I went for everything. And about 45-46000 gbp in total.

I agree that more should come as standard on higher cost model. Did skoda realise this by fitting Nav and cruise as standard?

Absolutely as above - the best options are the ones you want. Priorities and circumstances are different for everyone.

I was given a budget of £2k (& VAT) for options on my new vRS 4x4 estate company car, see my thread in this section.

Having obtained a very good discount, I managed to end up with the following options coming in at £2220, and contributed the difference myself:

  • winter pack
  • black design package plus
  • sunroof
  • leather
  • space saver spare wheel
  • double sided boot mat (thrown in FOC   )

Now i can't wait for it!

If you do a lot of motorway driving then the cruise control is a must, especially with the average speed cameras around.

Winter pack - definitely nice heated seats and heated windscreen.

Kessy - for the pure convenience factor

Black design pack plus - for a bit of bling.

I avoided the leather as I don't like getting in the the car in the summer and getting the back of my legs burnt like a steak.

Thank you all for your posts, opinions, and lists of options.

I disagree with some of the posts saying that options are pointless due to resale..... I believe you get the options YOU want, not what the next person after you might want. If you are looking to keep the car 1 year or so, yes, get a basic model. But I would get options to suit your lifestyle and how you want your car to look / perform.

I am going to Skoda tomorrow to get a new, or nearly new vRS so I have made a note of some of the options I would like. These include Kessy, Electric Folding Mirrors, Black Pack (possibly plus) and Leather seats.

Thank you all for your opinions. Hopefully in 24 hours I will have a new vRS on order

I very much like the Kessy system for the convenience, front parking sensors I felt the need for as well due to the parking round where I live.

Did wish I ordered the folding mirrors though but everything else I couldn't be bothered. The car is on PCH so the extra expenditure on extra's I jus did not think worth it as there is absolutely no possibility of me keeping the car at the end of the agreement.

You've already chosen the best option - the petrol engine.

Colour? Black magic Pearl.

Anything else? DSG and leather.

Ok - well new car has been ordered... and I have gone a bit over the top from what I originally wanted.

I have ordered....... vRS 230 in White Moon and the whole works!

Was going to wait for one to be built, which I was looking at possibly July, however there is one in Carlisle now, they are shipping it down ready for next week

did you get a good deal on the 230 fully loaded

Yes I did. However I went in today to get the 220 as I wanted to take advantage of the 0% APR offer they have until the end of March.

But by the time they added the options I wanted (maybe 6 options in total) - it was working out I was paying the same as a 230 which would come fully loaded, hence why I chose that.

What gave me room and options for the deal is that I had money saved to throw at the deal, plus my current MK2 vRS is worth more than I actually owe on it, again giving me some extra cash to chuch into this deal :) - Very happy

Will look out for you around Shrewsbury then - I'm in mid Wales and in Shrewsbury a couple of times every week :)

I'm in Telford and come to Shrewsbury quite often to.

V true but the flip side of this is the car will be worth little or no more than a standard car come trade in time so other than the relative enjoyment you might get from them there isnt alot of benefit.

For people buying a car to keep fairly indefinitely/until its knackered I get it but there are those (for examples sake) spending +30k on "every option ticked" vRS/L&K's that several months later, want to sell, arent worth half that trade and wonder what on earth has happened.

The residuals on these things are currently woefully poor, so the less you have to spend on one the better in my mind...but its just my view Im not in the trade and so no expert really.

Fortunately the residuals don't weigh heavily on my mind, what would be an utter waste of money would be buying a car without something on it I really want.

If I was so eager to compromise my enjoyment of ownership for money Id buy a bog standard dacia duster and get on with my life lol

Well I love cars but I have to acknowlege they are an utter waste of money when you compare what you pay for one compared to what its worth just a short time down the road.

My Dad (god rest his soul, passed away in Jan) bought a number of cars over a 13 year period, many new BMW's, a couple of Audi's, a Porsche and a (technically but made in 1989) classic Mercedes 420SL......for what he lost on those over the years as nice as they were he could have bought a nice property abroad...the only car that worked out was the Merc which actually made a bit of money when sold...though he spent a few grand on doing things to it.

Lifes too short and all that and if you love cars you just tend to do what you like and bugger the consequences but I think there is a line unless you simply have the disposible income levels just to plain not care what you lose on a car when you buy one.

My folks arent hard up but by god as much as I love cars they could have done something far more sensible with the money :-)
