Pressure washer advice

Featured Replies

I'm into buying a new 140bar pressure washer.

Torn between a Nilfisk or Karcher.

I read that the Nilfisk had a better build quality....any comments welcome.

Hi Phil.

I have the Karcher K4 ECO and I'm quite impressed.

Only downside is the green hose for the Lance attachment. I always coils up so would recommend sourcing a 10m rubber replacement if possible.

I liked the look of the Nilfisk with the long hose and reel stowage. Not sure of the build quality.

Nilfisk have metal pumps, Karcher are plastic and prone to breaking. I would go Nilfisk.

I think b&q have the Karcher K5 on sale at around £210. Has 5 year warranty. I think the plastic pump issue is with the cheaper range of karcher but I could be wrong.

At every price point, Nilfisk washers beat Karcher. Plus, after-sales service/advice is unbeatable.

Had my Karcher for over 10 years. All original and still going strong.

AIUI both Nilfisk and Karcher do models with metal or plastic pumps, the ones to avoid are the plastic ones

Look at flow rates rather than pressure in my opinion. A higher flow rate will be a better machine than a higher pressure one.

As above.

Plus look for brass over plastic.

(I would say get a Kranzle, even second hand)

I just bought a wee Nilfisk Titan Compact, 120 bar, £99 from Argos and came with loads of accessories, I've sold the original hose and accessories and just bought a 20m hose from www.directhoses.net

Bought a Autobrite Snow foam lance and that's me sorted for car cleaning, the 120bar is fine for me.

Look on Amazon. I got mine as a return - damaged box for £13 delivered.

Came with all the accessories snow foam / patio nozzle / decking cleaner / drain rods.

Consumer market pressure washers are designed for only 10 hrs use.  This is why you often find they are built with cheaper components.

So one should aim for a low spec industrial version.

Look at ScrewFix's Titan pressure washers. Not expensive and seem to be pretty robust. I'm pleased with mine.

Got a quote of 50 quid to service my old 120 bar Karcher 3.86. What do you peeps think?

Anybody in the market for a pressure washer might like to know that the latest (April) Which? magazine has an extensive test report on them....four Best Buys - two Nilfisk and two Karcher.

Just bought a stihl 129k. Very impressed. Only used it on the slabs so far will give the cars a go in the morning. Not used nilfisk but have had some experience with karcher didn't think they were great. Cheaper models anyway.
