No Smartlink of my new Fabia

Featured Replies

sounds like an "old" car has been sat around and has now been picked up by you and got a 16 plate.

it should have smartlink if it was post week 22 of 2015.

if the brochure says it does, and the dealer said it would, I would get onto them and don't take any bull****. they are not your friends.

It might also be worth re-setting the Mirrorlink system: Select the Menu option, then Setup and then Restore Individual Factory Settings and scowl down to Mirrorlink (or Smartlink - can't remember which) and then re-set it.

This worked on ours when we couldn't get Android Auto to work.

Not a happy bunny one bit!  Took it back to Colne today and spoke to the same salesguy.  Basically told me that I hadn't asked for it even though I specifically did which my partner is witness too.  It is also in the brochure and on the website!  Wasn't helpful at all, said there were no managers there to speak to and he would give me a call tomorrow.  Waste of a 30 mins journey.

Called the Preston and asked to speak to a manager.  They called me back to discuss it, he was more helpful.  He said it was true there were no managers there today as he is in Preston so at least he wasn't fobbing me off about that.  I said I specifically asked for it and I'm really not happy considering I bought it only yesterday.  He did mention a satnav thing they could install, but all this has left a sour taste in my mouth now which is such a shame.

I said I know I have 30 day right under the CRS to reject the car if not as described, which is the route I might take.

Any suggestions?  Is it worth calling the finance company or Skoda HO yet, or see what they come back with tomorrow?  He said I can still drive the car in the mean time which is some consolation, as I was prepared to leave it there unused.

Wait and see what they offer, keep cool, and they may make it worth your while.

If you get no joy, then contact Skoda UK.

Have you checked the build date yet? If it's after Week 22 2015 (approx Mid May) then it should have it installed.

Also try a reset, ours didn't work until I did that. Bear in mind that most sales staff don't understand how it works (ours didn't) and it was only a few weeks later that I worked out what needed doing.

Got a call back.  They've offered to swap it for me and for a petrol one which is more suitable for me than diesel as I do mainly shorter journeys.  I said I would have a think about it as I'm still not happy overall.

So it sounds like it was a pre-week 22 build, old 2015 stock car they had sat around, if they are ready to change it for another which obviously has "Smartlink" then.

Is the petrol a higher spec of equal value? Thought the diesel was a premium.

He said they can swap it for a Smartlink one that has Carplay - basically an actual new build car that wasn't made nearly a year ago.  The Petrol is 1.2 TSI 90, whilst the Diesel was 1.4 TDI 90.  Petrol suits me a bit better for my shorter journeys and they are both 90s so it is similar really.

He called back again, and have offered me a new Fabia SE 1.2 TSI 90 with the colour combination.  It has all the SE specs as in the latest brochure but an upgrade it has day running LED lights, spare wheel as well.

Even better he offered me to pay off my finance and start again, but with a reduction of about £25 in my monthly cost.  That would mean payments of £86.20 a month instead of £110.

Seriously interested, I said I would think about and get back tomorrow.

They did apologise.  I had told them I felt it was mis-sold.  I know I am entitled to cancel and a refund of my deposit within 30 days as well, but there offer seems good.

Do you think that sounds reasonable?

Forgot to say that I did the VIN check via the Skoda smartphone app and the build date was 13/04/15!!!

So my "new car" I am buying is really just less than a year old.  I know legally it is new because it hasn't been used (although it came with 47m on the clock) and they register it, but it isn't really what is advertised is it.

I know the Carplay thing sounds small, but I genuinely wouldn't have bought it without it.  I know I sound a bit sad lol.

Not sad at all..justvsomeone who wants what he has paid for and is not prepared to accept less. The offer sounds OK, particularly with the finance adjustment as well. I would be very tempted to shake hands on the deal, and get on with enjoying my new car. Don't get twisted about it, life is too short. Just look at it as a little bit of hassle from which you ended up with a better car. The TSI is a cracking engine...just run it in properly and enjoy.

I think you're right to be honest, it is a good deal :)

Just remember that price difference between new 1,2 TSI 90 and 1,4 TDI 90 is like 2500 GBP (TDI being more expensive by that). Then consider all the bonuses you get for the price and if those make up that difference. Probably not and that's why the finance over is so much better.

The prices work out that:

1.4 TDI 90 - OTR Price £15450.  Price I got was £13472.  Part Exchange £2500 and £500 Dealer Contribution.  Finance of £10472.  Payments of £110 a month over 41 months (5000 miles)

1.4 TSI 90 - OTR Price £13450.  They are offering me £86.20 a month over 41 months (5000 miles)

I haven't seen the new breakdown, but when I use the online finance calculator it comes up with £108.48 a month.

Makes my head ache trying to work out the figures, not sure if I am getting as good a deal as the first car.  Mind you I do suspect they wanted it gone due to its age really so they did push that one.

The price difference between a 90 TSi and 90 TDi is £2000. LED running lights and a spare wheel come to £275. So difference could be £1725

Given the price difference and all other things being equal, then the finance should have come down by £42 per month.

When we were doing a deal for the 1.4 TDI 90 they tried to get me to go for £130 a month.  I knocked them to £120 and then finally to £110 on which I agreed.  Do you think £110 was a good deal for the TDI 90 over 41 months and 5000 miles a year?  I would have hoped I knocked them down a reasonable amount.

Just not sure whether this new deal they are offering me is any good, or whether it is too expensive?  The online finance calculator for those options is £108 a month.

Makes a mockery of the current TV advertising campaign for the Fabia. Seemless phone connectivity!!!!!!!!!!!

Although our car does have carplay,  it didn't work with our iphone 5's as promised by the dealer, but they eventually fitted the Kenwood MIB free of charge after I battled with Skoda CS.

I wouldn't accept ANY aftermarket thing they try to fob off on you because this defeats the point of having CarPlay or Android Auto. These are features that will become increasingly common and increasingly important to buyers and the dealers need to wake up to it and know what they're selling to people...

Odd that it shouldn't work... Are your iPhones running the latest OS? I guess if you were to upgrade your phones then you might have more luck eventually.

I'd completely be the same... it's a big step forward in technology and still quite unique in this sector.

Sorry typo in my 1st post, I meant our iphone 4's were not supported. iphone 5 & 6  are fully supported by carplay.

We knew the iphone 4's wouldn't connect to carplay prior the completing the purchase, but the dealer was convinced that because our iphone 4's were on the latest OS they would. They were wrong, & as a result had to cough up for the Kenwood!

The Kenwood MIB is a £600 option for the mk7 Polo which fully intergrates with the Bolero touch screen. Doesn't really bother us not having carplay as bluetooth connects fine for calls & music playback & it's only the onscreen satnav that we really wanted.

I've just bought a "new" but pre registered Fabia SE which I know was built before June last year and as such doesn't have CarPlay/MFSW (this is not a problem).

The car has 15miles on the clock and was bought for less than 9k, more than 3k off list price.....just to give you an idea of how much the older build cars are worth.

Insist on getting a breakdown of all the figures as dealers can be a little tricky with this kind of thing.

Finally picked my Fabia up yesterday after three weeks of bargaining with the dealer after being mis-sold mirror link with no smartlink/carplay. The satnav us absolutely awesome, and so so quick and with the Bluetooth phone connection you can still make hands free calls etc. So if you can solve it by getting the dealer to fit the Sat Nav half price (or free!) it still works an absolute treat!
