No Smartlink of my new Fabia

Featured Replies

I picked up my new Fabia SE 1.4 TDI 90 today, and it doesn't have Smartlink.  I wanted the CarPlay which is why I went for a new one.

The care was registered for the first time day.  Does anyone have any advice at all?

Is it brand new? What the reg?

Had the same issue with mine last week and it's taken a while to solve! (Although mine was a used car)

Good luck!

It is 16 reg, registered for first time today with DVLA and Tax.  I bought it from a Skoda dealer.

Can't believe it doesn't have CarPlay.  All the brochures and website refer to this spec.  They didn't order it in for me as they already had one in showroom.

How did you identify that it has no CarPlay? If it doesn't show in the menu, it doesn't mean it's not there. Try connecting your iphone to the car via usb cable.

It shows Mirrorlink on the menu.  I plugged my iphone 6S in with USB and all that happened was it loaded my songs and things, and there was no carplay or smartlink showing anywhere on the bolero radio.  Is there anything I need to do in particular?

Do you think it is possible the new car I have is the version before smartlink at all?

Also, mine didn't come with any steering wheel controls either, does this make a difference?

The other thing is, just because it was registered new today it is dependant on its built date, it could have sat around for 6 months or more.

I know my local VW dealer has a brand new unregistered Golf R which was a customers cancelled order from last November!! Anyone buying it will get the latest registration as it was not registered but it will still be a 2015 spec car :(

Edited as I was talking rubbish again.

The fabias without smartlink were built before may last year (week 22) so a 16 reg car should definitely have it!

I tried calling the dealer today and left I message so I will speak to someone tomorrow.  I'm not happy really.  I know it seems a small feature but it is a big thing to me and is what I wanted :(

The brochure says the SE comes with Mirrorlink NOT Smartlink.

I think you need Smartlink for Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

Or are they the same thing?

The brochure says the Fabia SE comes with Smartlink

If it really doesn't have it I would wager that it has been Skoda stock and sitting around for almost a year. That would be the only explanation. As others have said all post week 22-2015 will have it.

I see what your saying. Do you think the dealer could sort it out?

You can't have it retro fitted, all they were doing were fitting a behind the dash plug in Kenwood satnav unit if you were lucky.

See what they say then

I managed to get my dealer to fit the Kenwood satnav upgrade half price as compensation for mis-selling the pre week 22 car.

Might also be worth contacting Skoda's main customer services line - they've been really good at contacting me and the dealer on my behalf.

With the satnav you don't need Google maps mirrored on the screen but you obviously still don't get the functionality of car play or android auto.

Bit gutted really surely they should have pointed it out. I said id looked online and wanted a new one.

It's a known problem (if you Google watchdog Skoda Fabia there's been a long list of complaints!) Dealers were told to make sure their staff were aware and telling customers but don't think it has worked.

You should have a 14 day cooling off period where you can legitimately ask to give the car back, or go down the route of telling them they've mis-sold it. I did that and have had to call Skoda pretty much daily for the last two weeks but finally getting the result in Friday!

If i ask to give it back would i lose my deposit which was a part ex for £2500?

What did you say to skoda? U say they missold?

I said that in all of the documentation I was given when being sold the car (so basically the most recent Fabia brochure) smartlink is specified with android auto and carplay rather than the basic mirror link. I said that at no point had I been told that my car would not have the specified features and that they had mis-sold me the car.

I think is totally reasonable to expect CarPlay and android auto - if you're buying a new car you expect it to have been built in the last 3-6 months, really...

Typed on a phone

I had a similar thing when I bought my Octavia vRS, I was categorically told it had full telephone integration.

The day I picked it up and drove away, got about 1 mile away when I could not connect my phone. I turned straight around walked in and put the keys on the desk and asked for something to be done or give me a full refund.

I had a full Kenwood DNX521DAB fitted within a week at no cost, Simples.
