Should I expect any money off a new Monte Carlo Estate from Dealer?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am just wondering if you could comment on if this is likely.

I am looking at a new 1.2tsi 110 estate Monte Carlo

It is £16395

+ front arm rest £95

+ 17 " Alloys £350

+ spare wheel £85

+ Manufacturers delivery charge £510

+ Registration fee £55

so £17490 in total

Options are non negotiable  because its the brand new display model they have in showroom.   A quick deal needs to be done in order for them to give me a price (that im happy with) for my existing Skoda.   The pricing on my old car is complicated because there is negative equity involved but this new deal would be completely separate and not have any existing finance rolled into it....

Just wondering if I walked in off the street - should I be expecting a discount on that new car?  How am I going to be looking after 4 years of this car of this deal on  PCP car if I take it without any discount?   Trying to avoid another negative equity situation in a few years time.

Thanks for your help.... Quick answers would be appreciated.

Octavia Monte Carlo? I didn't see that in the brochure.

I wouldn't expect much in terms of a discount. What the dealer could do is sweeten the deal by adding things that don't cost them much. Dealer (not factory) accessories, paint protection, free service, that sort of thing. Because you could always go to a different dealer.

Sorry everyone.... I meant to post this in Fabia section.... I will delete and move it...thanks for reply

Edit - cant actually see how to do that.    If a mod would be kind enough to shift it that would be great.

In fairness the dealer is helping us out quite a bit on my old car so I am pretty happy with the deal..... I just wanted make sure people were not getting a couple of grand off the price as a trend or something.   I know this is not common at car dealerships these days but thought I would ask.

I would totally expect a discount on it. If it's not been ordered for me to my spec then it's on someone's else's hands and they'll want to shift it. Exact situation I was in. Mine was in the showroom, had never been driven and I bought it on second test drive visit for a discount and picked it up two days later

I'd expect at least the same discount on a car they have in the showroom to a car built to order. Maybe have a look on Car Wow / Drive the deal with those options.

However, because they know your situation they may be reluctant to discount especially if they are offering a higher PX on your current car.

Edit - A quick quote on drive the deal with those options comes out at £15,681.95

They usually calculate you a GFV (Guaranteed Future Value) dependant on mileage and contract term on PCP deals, so you shouldn't be in any negative equity at the end of the PCP deal regardless of price. You'll probably just end up paying a highly monthly price if you pay full RRP.

We were in a very similar situation, had about £500 negative equity on our existing car, our closest dealer wouldn't budge much on a discount etc for a new one ordered to our spec so told them to do one.

Went to another dealer and they had an estate in the showroom, colour we wanted, sports suspension, 17" alloys and spare wheel.

They wrote off the existing negative equity, knocked £500 off the price, didn't charge us for the extra spec and we took advantage of the £500 free fuel card deal.

So if you go with the configurator price it should have been £17345 with the options, taking off all discounts etc we paid the equivalent of £15290 if my maths is correct, which I was more than happy with.

No doubt someone will always tell you they paid less than what you did but if the deal works for you go for it.

It's a lovely car by the way.

Personally I wouldn't be paying for the extras they have added on, you didn't spec them so the dealer needs to take the hit on them. Have you looked at ordering exactly why you want? The dealer wants rid so I would, and have in the past walk away and tell them you will think about it as you aren't sure about paying for things you didn't want. They will either stop you before you walk out the door with a counter offer or call you within 48hrs to reel you back in. Maybe ask to speak to the sales manager and lay your cards on the table, make them a reasonable offer for the car then sit back. Dealers hate silence so say nothing once you've made your offer and let them make the first move. That's just my experience anyway.

I bought an ex demo with park assist, upgraded stereo, spare wheel and pearlescent paint all of which the dealer added to the price of the car which they desperately wanted rid of for new stock. I ended up paying a third of the options and got £500 off the sticker price on the car. I would have ordered the fitted options anyway but they didn't know that. I also got free servicing and carpet mats and a boot liner.

Definitely as above.

Sorry I think I read the OP wrong, are they expecting you to pay the £17490 for the car?

Obviously I don't know how much negative equity you have on your existing car but there is no way I would be paying that.

As I said above our local dealer put in all the ground work with me, a good days worth, went through all the car options, test drives etc but they wouldn't give me the deal I wanted, said basically I had no chance, walked out and went to the dealer 30 miles away, told them exactly what I wanted and that I had been through everything else with my local dealer, I wasn't there to waste there time and if they couldn't give me what I wanted then I would walk away, 5 minutes later I was shaking his hand.

Needless to say my local dealer was back on the phone to me the next day.

Jedi, the Fabia Monte Carlo will depreciate even quicker than your Octavia VRs has, so you'll be in the same situation again. Let alone the existing negative equity on the Octavia, where are you hiding that, under the sofa...lol.

Not quite sure I understand the above statement.

If you're planning on letting the PCP term run to closure, negative equity won't come into it. Unless the dealer is offering a P/X value below the GFV value, you'll either hand the car back or pay the GFV to own the car in full?

Agreed, I presume the OP is terminating early for some reason, that's the only reason we were in negative equity.

What price did you pay then?   I am close to shaking so any info would be helpful

My reasons for changing are in this thread...better than me typing them again...

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/392352-downsizing-from-octavia-vrs-to-citigo-with-negative-equity/

The settlement figure on the Octavia is £16.8k

This dealer originally offered me £15k for my Octavia...which is close to a grand more than anyone else was offering... they have now offered 15.5k because I said I would clear my negative equity with a cash payment and settle the existing finance deal.... so I could get a new car from them at 0% with a  deposit contribution.

My alternative was to keep on paying for the Octavia until I could voluntary terminate in 23 months then hand it back - which means I need to service it, replace tires and hand over a load of interest in that time.

With this deal I am getting the car we actually now want, getting our monthly payments down, getting onto a 0% deal with higher mileage allowance and not having to pay the up coming thousand pound cost of servicing and replacing the tires on my Octavia.

And yes the price they are offering this car at is 17,490 in total

It is £16395

+ front arm rest £95

+ 17 " Alloys £350

+ spare wheel £85

+ Manufacturers delivery charge £510

+ Registration fee £55

They will also pay for my cherished plate to be transfered

That looks consistent with the website - but I need to know if people are seeing big reductions on this price and if they are coming off the list, or off the extras?

Hi Gripper.

That's an amazing deal but I am not getting anything like that response from a dealer.

every dealer I have spoken to tells us we currently have 2.3-2.4 negative equity on the car at the moment and they can not roll that into a finance deal on a new car and they certainly wont write it off.

Best I have been able to do is to get the dealer to pay 15.5 for ours...there for reducing negative equity to £1.3k.  They only went to 15.5k because I said I would settle the Octavia and then move quickly on a deal for a new car.

Not a bad deal then.

They're giving you £1500 more for your car, so that will be most of their profit in the Fabia, so you wont get any more off.

They must be doing it to meet a sales target.

FYI you only pay for excess mileage on the PCP if you hand the car back. So don't specify really high mileage pa, it just makes your payments more.

Hi,

You are correct in that they want to do a deal quickly to hit sales figures... that's why they have offered more for mine as long as I take the car they have in the show room this month..... by coincidence it is exactly the spec I want.

Yes mate I was happy with the deal I got, I can't advise you what to do as obviously you have about £2000 more negative equity than we had with ours if you have been to a number of dealers and they all agree.

Tricky situation, good luck with it.

HI, thanks all -they have offered me a few other bits of discount plus a free service plan and I have done a deal.

Im actually pretty happy with it ... we took a hell of a hit on the VRS due to second hand value and our desire to change vehicle early in deal...plus the original deal we got wasn't very competitive.

This car suits our needs much better and is more affordable - im happy with the resolution and pick the car up next week.

Nice one, lovely cars.

I would have questioned the delivery charge being passed on to you, the car is already on site.

Asong as you walk away with a smile on your face that's what matters.

Happy motoring!

Internet discount price for Fabia Monte Carlo estate 1.2tsi with no extras seems to be about £13711 at ukcardiscount . Walking in off the street I wouldn't pay more than that plus extras.

I think you would be walking a while, I would be amazed if any dealer would currently match that price if you walked in and asked them.

What's the lowest price anybody on here has paid?
