Featured Replies

hello

I have skoda octavia ambiente mk1  year 2003

I live in iceland

when there is raining there start to drip water from the roof carpet that´s under the lights wich are above the front window

and it drips on the manual shifting.

have any of you had this problem?

If you have a sunroof check the the drains are clear. They exit between the hinges on the 'A' pillar of the car. You need to get something long enough to go all the way down the pipe that is flexible to go down the drain.

Roof rail mounting point?

Had a new windscreen fitted?

no it is a hatchback

no it has not been fitted a new windscreen

Is it dripping when in the move or when parked (or is it both?)

Im thinkimg radio antenna base and water is just flowing forward to the front if parked pointing downhill slightly, getting out at the light unit. Or it put be running along the antenna cable to the front..

Got a picture of it behind the light?

the water flows while it is parked, I´ll try to send pictures today

it´s parked on a 0 degree parking space so it´s not pointing downhill nor uphill

the antenna is on the other end of the roof, do you think it could be leaking from the antenna and all the way to the front window?

I think to find out exactly where it is leaking from, you are going to have to remove the headlining.

how is that done?

will I have to rip off the carpet/blanket under the roof?

Remove the sun visors, grab handles, rear map reading lights(if fitted), plastic trim from rear then the headlining will drop and come out through the boot.

ok cool thanks!!

I think I found the problem

after I removed the headlining

I see it is leaking from the sealant that´s used to seal off the frontal windscreen

Can I use some kind of a black sealant to seal the screen on the outside?

Well you can try. After all, you can't make it worse.

Failing that get a windscreen company to remove and refit the screen?

I think the problem is there on the pic

there is a small gap between the roof and the black rubber

I would take it to a windscreen place like suggested above and they will be able to tell you instantly if that's the issue and be able to remove and refit the windscreen properly. Sealant could look a bit messy and in such an exposed part of car bonding on 2 different materials, may not work well. If you using sealant on a buget, try use something like gutter sealant designed for outdoors and flexibility.
