Broken Engine Cover Vent Hose

Featured Replies

Hello folks. I've used the forum many times before for simple fixes and it's always delivered the info I need – so thanks, all. But today, I've found an problem that I can't find any information about. I have almost zero mechanical knowledge, so please excuse me if this is a stupid question.

I've got a 2005 Mk2 Octavia 1.6 FSI. I removed the engine cover (which I've done successfully a few times in the past), but today I snapped the small plastic pipe that connects between the engine cover and the engine.

It's this part number 03C103558. Part 21 in this diagram: http://vagpart.com/skoda/octavia-oct-eu-2005-1z-5-000-001-10353-cylinder-head-cylinder-head-cover-cover-for-intake-manifold/#p-sko-03c103558

It's right in the middle of this image.

I've no idea what this actually does.

So, my naive question is – can I drive the car before I fit a new hose? Will it cause damage, or will I just lose some efficiency or performance? I have an important journey to make on Monday, before the new part will arrive, and could do with some advice about whether I'm in trouble or not...

Drive it with carefree abandon.  It just lets a little fresh, filtered air into the engine, as part of the crankcase ventilation system. All you'll be doing is letting unfiltered air in instead, for a day or two. The engine will not care, or even notice.

Phew, that's wonderful to know. Thank you!

wrap some decent tape around the break.  should be fine for a while.
