Columbus DVD / Nav Radio draws 10 volts / 2.5 amps when off?

Featured Replies

You will not know how better the Ds-611 unless you search for it just go to the web site and see the specifications for the mentioned device with Navigation it fits the same as Columbus with the same quad lock socket the same double fakra antenna socket the same GPS antenna socket... Just search the DS-611 DVD player then tell me your opinion. It use sygic maps and Igo8 for navigation system. Just give it a look.

Unless it's proven that the battery drain on the car is caused by the Columbus, there is no need to spend almost $400 on a new headunit. Let's solve one problem before moving to the next...

If REH17 decides that the Columbus doesn't do something they want, then that's the time to start discussing Columbus vs DS-611 and other replacement headunits :)

Logically yes you are right

I am not buying a new headunit

I have loads of old radios in the shed.

I Locked the car for several hours today with the meter hooked up to the radio fuse.

It showed 0 and then when the seat moved by itself it spiked up to 0.25...... eventually returning to 0

This process continued for while.

I am.now sat in the car, the seat periodically moves at which time.the radio makes a noise, as if it is loading or working.

I may remove the position buttons off the seat again, but last time I did this, the seat still rose up on its own.

Am.I able to pop the seat controls off and disconnect without unhooking battery? Ive been isolating battery incase I set the airbags off... is this something I need to do when popping connections etc

Again thanks for.your continued input

That suggests the Columbus is probably quite happy. It's using 0 current and then when the seats move it's starting to wake up using power until it turns off again.

I'd be removing the seat movement switches, taking them apart and cleaning them up. They seem to get corroded on other VAG vehicles causing the seats to move themselves. If it still moves without the switches you could have damaged wiring to the control module.

I wouldn't expect you to need to remove the battery. If you come across a yellow connector they tend to be airbag related so normal airbag practise should be followed.

Great advice thankyou... the seat only moved up when the controls were removed... it has a tendancy to rise when i open the door and then sometimes will lower itaelf down again when i drive. Other times it just does as it pleases which can be annoying. Will pop the switches off over the weekend and see what happens

Just out of interest: have you had the car scanned for errors?

Had it scanned when I got a nice chap on here to code the system to recognise the tow bar.... he said there was something with the seat but at the time it wasn't an issue...

If anyone is local that would like to do me a favour before I outlay on the VCDs it would be greatly appreciated.... I am around today... Worcester area..

Going to have a look at seat switches to see if they are corroded etc.
