Upgrade to Octavia ?

Featured Replies

I have had Rapid 1.4 TSI DSG for 2 years and car and gearbox have been great.

Some problems still there to lesser degree of low speed road booming.

Now have 3 year old car with 40k miles (25K of mine)

Opportunity to change to Octavia 1.6 TDI DSG Aug 15 reg.

Any opinions or issues whats the good points over the Rapid????

Surely a better car - but will it fit in the garage?

You wont believe how rough the 1.6tdi is compared with what you're used to. Horrible engine.

I can't comment on the engine, but the Octavia obviously has more space and particularly more driver leg room. The cabin is also more upmarket.

Overall a better quality car. I quite like the 1.6TDi CR. I had a Fabia with this engine and recently test drove a Golf with the same engine and was better than the Fabia. Cant comment on the DSG though. I had 50,000 miles fault free in the Fabia. Easy to get 60 mpg on a good run.

If you don't mind that it's larger, it's by all means a better car, and that reflects to its RRP.

Test drive it though, the TDI is very different from the TSI so you may not like that it has a narrower torque band or that it is noisier. However, you may like that it is stronger, more durable and more economic. I'd also have a mechanic examine the DPF to see if there is any serious clogging (although it's so new that I doubt it).

Do you mean coming from the rear hatch door, a few have had complaints with that? Easily solved with adjustment.

I think Bidey was one of the first to get the hatch adjustment done.

Talking of difference between petrol and diesel, I've rested my 1.2 tsi up for a week and I'm driving my wife's 116d sport BMW. I'm now so used to my responsive petrol engine that I genuinely don't like the diesel anymore. We got the BMW new and I drove it for 5 months before I got the Rapid, I used to think it was a great responsive engine. I can't believe it but I'm now a fan of petrol and my next car will be a petrol too.
