Decoding the Vin

Featured Replies

I recently bought a used Oct Vrs and would like to know exactly what options it has (Non Skoda dealer was totally clueless).

I realize i can get this from Skoda when i get it serviced next but wondered if somebody on here had the skills.  The VW forum i used to frequent had guys that seemed to be able to read from the number directly.   :nerd:

Thanks, a week in and pretty impressed.

I have got some code that attempts to decide the vin. I've done this mostly from digging around and not proven.

It's only on my development machine at the moment though. I've not looked at any of the mkIII codes yet. I've tagged this post to see if any new info surfaces.

Nice cars though aren't they ;)

Invest about £7 in an hour's worth of downloading rights on erWin Skoda and you can download the full car data (a few times as many - decoded - option-codes as on the sticker in the car) if you know the VIN. While you're there you can get maintenance/service/repair instructions and wiring diagrams, and Self Study Programme documents about anything that interests you. Rude not to really.

Thanks everybody, all a big help.

The Main thing I was looking for was to make 100% that the car was set up for variable service indications.  When i bought the car the dealer gave me a load of guff about the car not needing another service for a year which even with my limited knowledge wasn't necessarily the case if the car had variable intervals.

The car will be 3 years old in October but more likely pass 20,000 miles before then.  Is it safe to assume that these dates/mileage will be hard set in the computer and be resistant to reset?

Disappeared down the rabbit hole via your links and ended up here.  :-)

Om the uk cars is code 3W6 standard?

Its additional roadnoise supression.

Edited by KjetilRos

Even the presence of the variable servicing code is not enough to be sure, all UK cars are supplied on variable servicing from the factory. However it is possible to switch between variable and fixed, so the car could have the variable service code but actually be set for fixed service intervals.

Generally speaking when on variable servicing the car will run up-to an absolute maximum of around 19K miles or 2 years from the previous one. You will get a message on the maxidot screen, and also somewhere on the infotainment.

I have no idea, i seem to remember reading on here that some cars had liners under the bonnet and some didn't (mine does) could be that i suppose.

Will probably go until 20,000 and then call the service center for their advice (get it serviced i would  guess ;-)).

Thanks Everybody.

I have seen the code on a Vrs petrol. They have no sound protection under the bonnet like the TDi. My dealer dont know the difference with or without either.
