Headlight problems with Felicia -98 MPI

As for the initial cause for the main beam failure, I put it on a combination of unproffesional wiring plus bad contacts of connectors in the relay panel. I hope you know that  they have a locking sliding bar...

Yes! I hope that those two things are the original reason. If it is true, the case would be over.

It is almost ridiculous, that also the information about that locking sliding bar came via this Briskoda-site to me, given by a Finnish guy that has followed here several topics for years...

There is really something wrong with that Finnish Skodapower- site. There are two moderators that give messages almost every day, but those messages are like this: "Oh, you have problems with the electrics of Bosch Monomotronic. Check the bottom of the fuse box and the tin joints there (good advice)".  But as I in last winter´s darkness did not notice that sliding bar, I tried to force the connectors out, but did not dare to use too much power.

Then I asked the same guy: "Could you help me, I can´t remove those connectors". The answer was a silence that still goes on. Now that I learned to open the box, I have been telling every possible person about that little locking stalk. Those two moderators are arrogant in my point of view. But there´s nothing i can do. Not all the Finns are like that.

I was wondering if either of you ever sleep? I don't know the time difference between Finland and the Dominican Republic (about 7 hours at a guess) but you both seem to be posting at all times of the day and night by UK time!

Yes, during the last week I have slept about 8h/day, but the sleeping time has varied a lot, really. I am unemployed right now, so it is possible to behave like this.

But I was busy making my car trustable at day or at night, because this is the best season of watching all the birds coming from south. And there are coming playing gigs for what one car is not enough. Now it seems, that the work was not done  in vain, so I can start sleeping almost like the normal people do  :)

Once more: Thanks (and a Nobel prize) to Ricardo  (and the others, too)

  • I understand your point of view about simple, reliable, very low maintenance needed cars. That is why I chose to drive a Felicia with carburetor. No computer, no injector(s), no unreliable sensors, no

  • Disconnect negative battery cable.   1) Check visually the wiring associated with headlights, from switches to headlights. Tug lightly on wires around connectors. Look for peelings, cracks, corrosio

Hi once more !

I spent last night visiting many lakes where many flocks of migratory birds gather right now, and I had a really good time there. This evening we have a playing gig where I am able to go with my own car, which makes me happy, too.

So, I am really happy right now. And I´m beginning to believe that this problem has been solved. :)

Best Greetings to all from the spring time- Finland :sun:

I'm happy that you are happy. Felicia isn't a bad car after all. As any old car, it has sometimes its share of corrosion related electrical problems. Sometimes taking out one relay, plug, connector or fuse and putting them back is enough to solve such issues. In those countries where humidity is higher than average, it is advisable to spray some WD40 on contacts before reseatting the parts. That will keep moisture out for years.

Because WD40 got more expensive lately, I am using the substitute shown in this video with great success at a fraction of the cost. The guy on that YouTube channel has more interesting stuff to show.
