DSG self revving

Featured Replies

I had a 6 speed manual gearbox completely go on me! It started with notchy changes from 1st to 2nd. Changed the gear oil and did all the cable alignment etc. It made a little improvement but then driving along one day and the box went bang and made some horrible noises. Bearings failed. New recon gearbox, clutch and flywheel later and I was back on the road!

So manual boxes aren't immune either.

Had your DSG never had it's oil and filter changed as per the 40k schedule then you reckon?

  • Last UPDATE:   Been calling at DSG service centers around the country starting from Southampton up to Glasgow and got same answers. Maybe the mechatronic, maybe just the clutch... anyway all in all

  • ? What do you mean the 'Mechatronic' / MCU (control unit) can not be fixed. http://evosoft.dk/tech.html   It can be replaced.   Where are you getting your information, all online?

  • I am not saying that it cannot be replaced but in Jersey there is a bit more difficult as we have just 1 Skoda dealer and only they know how to deal with DSG gearboxes and everything else. I will go

Hi Phil,

Yes it was changed at 40k and now at 85k was changed again when this small garage fixed it.

The most strange thing in my opinion came from the approved Skoda garage which after checking everything they did not even recommend to change the oil to see if it was any improvement although the car was then at 84k.

I learned now that for them is easy and more profitable to replace any parts than to spend some time to try to fix it. At the end of the the day these small garages have to earn some money and the official ones are doing "their best" to help :)
