Cheapest, Most Reliable V8 Car

Featured Replies

I fancy owning a V8 engined car at some point in my life. I love the noise of V8s and would love to say I've owned one. I wouldn't keep it for long, a year at most, as I think the running costs would get too much by then, and I'd like something that's reliable as if something goes bang then it'll be expensive!

I'll set a challenge for you all: find me the cheapest V8 engined car that has a decent reputation for reliability. Got to be fairly quick and sporty too!

Audi A8? - Heavy depreciation, lovely engine

LS400, S-Type, Old Merc (like pre-90's).

I bet a V8 discovery is fairly cheap but I think the LS400 above is a good option.  Must be a few luxo-barges about.  V8 mercedes are usually worth naff all nowadays.

LS400

Never thought of that - good idea

Downside is, they're probably the most boring thing a V8 ever got put in. You won't be getting the V8 noise without custom pipes.

A old 5 series wouldn't be a bad shout. I bet a E60 545i can be had pretty cheap!

MG ZT  If we ignore reliable... but you know.

Jag XJR - It's a V8 but show it a corner and you'll long for a hot hatch.

Alpina B10

Merc SL500

BMW 840

Lexus SC 430

Audi S4

Triumph Stag

Triumph TR8

Or if you spend more than 15k far more... silly things :)

Triumph Stag

Did someone say reliable?

Actually if you find a Triumph Stag with the original type engine  - this can be reliable with modern antifreeze and an electric fan upgrade

Vauxhall Monaro?

Vauxhall Monaro?

Yummy! 2007 6.0l

Depending on what you want... had a few Toyota Soarer v8's back in the day.. top spec even have active suspension. Massively over engineered bulletproof reliability, coupe... what more could you want :)

As said a Lexus LS or SC [emoji4]

Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. Thousands of Cops over here can't be wrong!

Or it's posher, but rare sibling the Mercury Marauder (with 302bhp V8 from the contemporary Mustang Mach 1).

Lexus GS is sportier than LS, and seats 4 unlike the SC430.

Merc CL420 & 500 coupes are cheap too.

Volvo S80 4.4 V8
