Chipped windscreen

Featured Replies

Three weeks of ownership and a lorry making a last minute decision to leave the M1 throws a stone up at my windscreen.

It's left a very noticeable chip right in the centre. I'm gutted. :(

Ah balls!! Typical

Thanks for the reminder. I noticed last week I have the tiniest nick in mine, only cos I was cleaning the glass did I notice it. Have never had to replace one ever, would you advise I change it? Almost seems like a waste though I knew they can creep and crack. It is tiny!!!

Or have it repaired somehow?

Sorry for the semi hijack on the thread but it's all on topic I guess!!

Just get It repaired won't cost that much and it, l stop it cracking. I have a 2 inch crack in mine so I need a new one probably go threw   the insurance £75 excess. I bought the car at 5000 miles on the clock I noticed it says nord glass as the maker of the windscreen.
This must mean It's already had a new screen I just got in the car one day and the crack was there no chip just a crack on the drivers side?

Autoglass are coming out to repair mine on Thursday morning. It'll cost me £10 excess on my insurance which is neither here nor there in the grand scheme of things.

Having looked more closely to give them the details, there are actually two chips quite far apart but one is tiny and barely noticeable. They're repairing both though just to be safe.

feel Your pain...

got a stone as big as my fist in the window a month a go when a truck past me, i was sure the window shoud brake but i only got two "chips" Down by the wiper..

The smaller of mine is down by the wiper. I'd probably leave it if that was the only one.

Autoglass have just been. The chips are too small to repair apparently.

The larger of the two doesn't look small from inside the car when the sun hits it. :(

That's not as galling as replacing 2 front tyres and getting a piece of metal stuck in the sidewall of one a week later. Goddammit.

What a bummer, it's a shame when it happens to any car even worse when it's new. One thing I would say however, this happened to me a few years back and I paid the windscreen excess on direct line, no problem right. Wrong, when I came to insure my skoda I filled in the form and was asked had I made any clams, the answer was no, I had not had any accidents, so a got my quote and it was 380 quid. Every thing good so I thought, i shoped around a bit more and in the end I decided to go with direct line, filled in the forms again and reread the clams section then read the small print, it seams any clams including windscreen must be declared, so I put all the info in and the quote came out 120 quid higher. This is an insurence company I was with for 12 years. It's not a problem with your current insurer, and I don't know if they can raise the premiums next year, just keep it in mind if choosing insurence company.
